Reminder about the virtual Town Hall tonight!

FCPS will host a virtual Town Hall on Return to School options on Monday, July 6, at 6:30 p.m. A Spanish language Town Hall will be held on Wednesday, July 8, at 6:30 p.m. https://bit.ly/31z8yW6

Correction! Please only respond once even if you have multiple children, and follow the prompts within the questions. Multiple responses with the same email address wipe out previously recorded responses. Sorry for the confusion!

The PES PTA requests your response to our preliminary survey to gather information about the FCPS Return to School plan. We are requesting you answer a few questions, and there is an area for you to provide your questions. Your answers to the PTA survey are NOT binding and are just for internal PES PTA purposes. This survey will close on Wednesday, July 8th. Please access the survey at https://providence.ptboard.com/formvw?store=1166&form=4

Please note you must still respond to the FCPS survey to make your choice; this is just an informational survey and opportunity to gather questions. The PTA strongly suggests you wait until July 10th to respond to the official FCPS survey. Please provide yourself enough time to review and understand the options, attend the Town Hall meetings with the Superintendent (details below) and ask any questions you may have. The decision for every student will be honored, and it is NOT first come, first served.

These questions will be gathered and sent to City of Fairfax School Board Member Carolyn Pitches. She will review the questions and provide any answers/information she can. Her responses will be summarized and provided to you via email. Our hope is this will help you make an informed decision for you and your child.

Please note this return to school plan is not being developed by the FCPS School Board or the City of Fairfax School Board. It is being developed by FCPS Staff and Leadership with the help of a task force, so both school boards have mostly the same information that has been communicated already. It would likely be a clarification that will be provided to you. All the details are being developed once FCPS has the July 10th teacher and student data. Unfortunately, this is part of the issue and has created a lot of the questions.

There are two Town Hall meetings you may attend to ask additional questions. We strongly encourage you to take advantage of these meetings and use them as your primary resource for answering your questions. Links to the meetings and other information are provided below:

Monday July 6th - FCPS Town Hall 6:30-7:30 pm with Superintendent Dr. Brabrand - https://www.fcps.edu/news/fcps-host-town-hall-june-16
Tuesday July 7th - FCCPTA FCPS Town Hall with Superintendent Dr. Brabrand starting at 7 pm - http://www.fccpta.org/2020/06/27/return-to-school-townhall/
As a reminder, FCPS has created some Frequently Asked Questions and they can be found at https://www.fcps.edu/return-school/return-school-questions-and-answers

Separately, I know school supplies are a question on everyone's mind. If your child does return to the building, they will need supplies and they will NOT be able to share with another student. If your child does 100% virtual learning, their need for supplies may be diminished, but the supplies should likely be good to use the following year, or if there is a return to school for all students. We have extended our deadline to Sunday, July 12th, which will allow you to make your choice with FCPS first. Supplies will be delivered to PES on August 21 and we will coordinate distribution and provide details as it gets closer. To order, go to the following site and enter the school ID, PRV222 (3 numbers/3 letters): www.educationalproducts.com/shoppacks

Please let us know if you have any questions. Thank you!

Very true! I think it's good to talk to your child about the options, but little ears hear lots of things when you don't realize it!

Being unhappy, frustrated, sad, or angry are all ok but please be aware of not sharing these feelings with your student.

The proofs were approved this afternoon and the Providence yearbook will be printed soon….look for it in your mailbox in mid-to-late July!

Congratulations to this year’s cover artists: Amelie, Olivia, Stella, Sophie, Caleb, and Falizha!

If you have an address issue or other concern with the timing of delivery, please contact [email protected] no later than Tues June 30th.

Huge thanks to Amy Spokas, our Yearbook Chair, for getting this done. Her daughter graduated from PES this year and this final yearbook was quite memorable! Amy was intent on making it special and we hope you all love it!

📣 📊 SURVEY FROM FCPS:

Dear FCPS Parent or Caregiver,

FCPS is gathering information about preferences for returning to school and information on distance learning to gain a better understanding of the strengths and challenges and make improvements in the event FCPS needs to return to distance learning in the future. The survey linked below asks about your family’s comfort with several Return to School options and about your family’s experiences with distance learning. It should take no more than 10 minutes to complete.

📣 📣If you have more than one child in FCPS, you may complete the survey multiple times, once for each child, using the same link. Your individual responses will be anonymous and only summary data will be shared with decision-makers.

✅ ✅ Please complete the survey by 8 p.m. on Friday, June 19th. The survey is available in multiple languages.

Thank You Teachers

Dear PES teachers and staff,

Thank you so much for everything you do for our 900+ students each and every day. This year is especially unique and we have gained an extraordinary amount of new appreciation for all that you do. With all the challenges we face these days, it is so comforting to know that you are still there, helping our kids learn, providing them with feedback, ensuring they have access to technology and meals, and just being there for both students and parents every day.

We hope you enjoy this slideshow and know how truly appreciated you are, each day.

I can only hear so much when my kids are distance learning...I have to imagine this is somewhat accurate from the teacher's side though!

Did we mention it's Teacher Appreciation Week next week?!? 😀😀 Send in those pictures and notes to [email protected] so we can thank them for all they do!

While things look a little different this year as we work and attend school from home, we still want our teachers to know we love and appreciate them. Now more than ever, we need to remind our teachers just how amazing they are and how much we miss them!

Please help the PTA celebrate our teachers by sending in a picture of your child holding a note or picture, or a sidewalk drawing, bouquet of hand picked flowers or ANYTHING else you choose to show them that you care!

Pictures can be sent to [email protected] and MUST be received by Monday, May 4th.

By sending in a picture of your child, you are providing consent to the PES PTA and PES to use the pictures.

We just found a whole new area for Specials within Blackboard. Previously we were using the county area but Ms. Grandon directed us to this PES specific area. This is WAY MORE FUN than what we saw previously. Hope this helps some other parents out there!

Step 1. Login into your child’s Blackboard account at https://fcps.blackboard.com/

Step 2. In middle of screen under “My Courses” click on 396-studentall-1920-YR: Providence Distance Learning

Step 3. Click on “Specialist Activities” on the blue banner on the left and then you’ll see Art, Band, Library, Chinese, Music, PE & Strings.

We are looking for contact information for the Cub Scout troop based at Providence for our current kindergartener to join next year (1st grade). If anyone can provide us a contact we would appreciate it. Our children go to Navy Elementary (people placed), but we want to do scouts in the local neighborhood. We missing the ability to connect at open house, please PM me if you have a lead. The Boy Scout website doesn’t list a Providence troop.
