A motor vehicle was stolen every 37 seconds in the United States in 2024 according to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.

To avoid being targeted by thieves who steal from vehicles, use common sense when parking and exiting your vehicle.
- Take your vehicle's key; do not leave it in or on your vehicle.
- Close and lock all windows and doors when you park.
- Park in well-lit areas if possible.
- Never leave valuables in your vehicle, especially if they can be seen from outside the vehicle.

To deter thieves from stealing your car, use an antitheft device or system:
- Audible/visible deterrents, like alarms with horns or steering wheel locks, deter thieves through their visible presence or draw attention to your vehicle if someone attempts to steal it.
- Immobilizing devices prevent thieves from hotwiring a vehicle.

If you experience theft from or of your vehicle, call your local police department to report the theft. It's never a good day to have your car stolen, but we're here to help.

Please anticipate extensive traffic and delays before, during and after both events, especially the evening festivities.
