Good afternoon everyone. There is a flood warning in effect until 745 tonight. Be careful and as always, turn around, don’t drown. Your SUV, lifted vehicle, new car, etc. does not give you immunity to “go for it” or “send it”. You not only put yourself at risk, but also the first responders who come to help you.

Drive smart folks—lights on and reduce your speed!

Have a safe evening!

Just a reminder whether during the day or at night, keep your vehicles locked and valuables out of sight or take them with you. Thefts from autos can happen at the store, gas station, park, etc. It’s your stuff and let’s keep it away from thieves.

Have a safe day everyone!

Today, June 7, at 2:00 PM, a peaceful protest/march is scheduled at City Hall (10455 Armstrong Street). Event participants will meet at City Hall, walk to Old Town Square, and then proceed back to City Hall. This is promoted as a family-friendly event. Rolling road closures may occur and will be implemented as necessary.

06/07/2020

Many people came together today for a peaceful demonstration. Wearing face coverings with an eye to health concerns during the pandemic, people of all backgrounds, races, and ages joined their voices as one. Drivers honked in passing, pushing their fists out of their car windows in solidarity. Demonstrators held signs, waved flags, and kneeled for eight minutes in remembrance of George Floyd. We are committed to supporting our citizens, businesses and visitors. We support freedom of speech, assembly, and expression, and protect those who practice those freedoms in #FairfaxCity.

Thank you to all in attendance today for a peaceful demonstration!

Message to the Community

The City of Fairfax Police Department is deeply saddened by the events in Minneapolis which resulted in the tragic death of George Floyd while in police custody. Our hearts go out to the Floyd family as they deal with the tremendous loss of someone they love, and to the citizens of Minneapolis as they try to mend their relationship with, and their trust of, law enforcement.

Protests and demonstrations have raised legitimate concerns about policing policies and practices that include police use of force, bias in policing, police accountability, and transparency. These issues are at the heart of a community’s relationship with its police department.

The City of Fairfax Police Department is committed to serving and protecting all members of our community with the utmost respect for each person, and with the mandate of ensuring the sanctity of life. We strive to protect the safety of everyone in a respectful manner, while upholding and enforcing the law.

Our agency continues to focus on hiring and recruiting officers who reflect the community they serve, reducing use of force by training officers in de-escalation techniques, and ensuring there is a robust and thorough review of all complaints of police misconduct.

We recognize that events involving law enforcement impact the reputation of all law enforcement officers, regardless of where the event occurs. We hope, and constantly strive, to maintain our community’s trust and support. We know this will take honest and open dialogue, unconventional partnerships, commitment, dedication and a willingness to learn from the past. We must work together to build a future that strives for fairness, respect, dignity, security, and justice for all. The City of Fairfax Police Department is fortunate to have an established Body Worn Camera program that has been in place since December of 2016. The program is supported by the City Manager and City Council, which also assists in supporting the police department’s goal of accountability and transparency.

Finally, I would like to acknowledge my pride in the officers who serve our community. They continuously demonstrate unwavering courage and dedication to public service and strive to protect the values of the policing profession, while maintaining respect and dignity for everyone. I am grateful for the level of professionalism displayed by the City of Fairfax police officers who have dedicated their lives to protect our community.

Good evening everybody! If you haven’t heard, Northern Virginia will enter Phase One starting tonight at midnight. What does that mean for you? The biggest change is the requirement of face coverings inside nearly all brick-and-mortar establishments, including public transportation, retail stores, government buildings and restaurants — except when customers are eating and drinking.

For more information and a complete list of Phase One changes please visit https://www.governor.virginia.gov/media/governorvirginiagov/executive-actions/EO-63-and-Order-Of-Public-Health-Emergency-Five---Requirement-To-Wear-Face-Covering-While-Inside-Buildings.pdf?fbclid=IwAR2pJaVYwXI23Qh6R-8ULpkAYMG55a8-AAMAAlRwwnHw8TIZgSlx8AW93ZI

It is important to note that the Virginia Department of Health is responsible for fielding inquiries on alleged violations and enforcement of the Governors Executive Order EO-63. The Virginia Department of Health can be notified if you see large gatherings, too many people in an establishment, not following proper social distancing or not wearing a face covering. The call center number is 877-275-8343. Thanks and we will update you when new information becomes available.

Please do your best to protect yourself, your family, and others.

Today we pause to remember the men and women of our nation’s military who made the ultimate sacrifice in service to our country. 💙🇺🇸

05/23/2020

Well, we are still experiencing technical issues, but that is ok as this weekend is about remembering those service members who paid the ultimate sacrifice serving this great country. 💙🇺🇸😔💙

While you take a pause to remember those service members who have died, please remember a couple other things this weekend.

▶️SLOW DOWN, COVID-19 does not give people a free pass to drive recklessly as we may be running out of toilet paper, but I can assure you we still have ticket books in stock.

▶️With the warmer weather, remember this means people will be out exercising, bike riding, motorcycle riding, etc. Everyone look out for each other.

▶️Bad news reminder, mosquitoes, yeah they are out in full force. What’s this have to do with safety message? Nothing, but if you follow us frequently, you know I don’t like them.

▶️Since we can’t post pics we would like to say thanks Patriots Pub & Grill for the pizza donation on Wednesday, and to Lowes for the donation of PPE yesterday....thank you to both businesses.

▶️Finally, for those wondering about our Facebook issues-yes we have turned the computer off/on, even unplugged the computer😁, and tapped the side of it like any true flowchart of frustration. But just like communications in the past with messenger pigeons, dial-up (yeah you remember the sound), to how we communicate now-we will get through this. Have we mentioned check out our Twitter page in the mean time?! (@FairfaxCityPD).

Have a safe day everyone and the D-1/N-1 squads and dispatchers have you covered this weekend!

Thanks for your patience!

Please know we are having some technical difficulties with publishing new posts with pictures, etc. Possibly our fox post broke the internet-😁. We have a wide array of talent from the Atari to the TikTok generations looking into it.

We will be back at it soon and we hope everyone has a great Friday and a safe Memorial Day weekend!
