Have you seen the new shuttle in the Mosaic District?

Autonomous Electric Shuttle Pilot Project
-
Passengers can now get a free, zero-emissions ride from the Mosaic District to the Dunn Loring Metrorail station on an electric autonomous shuttle! On Oct. 22, federal, state, and local officials joined Fairfax County and Dominion Energy to celebrate the launch of passenger service on Relay. The first publicly funded autonomous electric shuttle and test of driverless technology in public transportation in the Commonwealth of Virginia is now in operation. This pilot project is a public-private partnership between Fairfax County, Dominion Energy, EDENS (Mosaic District developer), Virginia Department of Rail and Public Transportation (VDRPT), Virginia Department of Transportation (VDOT), Virginia Tech Transportation Institute (VTTI), and George Mason University (GMU).

Metro Forward

More trains, more stations, more buses, more hours.

We're finalizing plans to restore most rail and bus service to pre-Covid levels across the region in the largest – and likely most complex – service change in the system's 44-year history. To support the effort, thousands of frontline Metro employees will transition to new work schedules as the region continues its gradual recovery and more customers are expected.

Metro is increasing service starting August 16, and Vienna is on target for completion near Labor Day!
07/23/2020

Metro is increasing service starting August 16, and Vienna is on target for completion near Labor Day!

Metro will add more buses, more trains, and more hours of service beginning on August 16, restoring most service to pre-Covid levels while maintaining a strong response posture to Covid-19. Metrorail will add 15 hours more service per week, with opening times returning to normal and the system closing two hours later each night in anticipation of potential increases in ridership after Labor Day.

The increased service will allow Metro to provide greater transit options for the region, while still maintaining stepped up Covid-19 cleaning protocols. Trains, buses and stations are cleaned daily, high-touch surfaces wiped down and disinfected, and routine deep-cleaning at stations.

Thanks to Anna and Elizabeth of Metro West and the WABA volunteers! It was a great ride. As an amateur historian, I found the Jeremiah Moore burial site most interesting. My curiosity was activated, so I did a little more research about Jeremiah Moore.
