City of Fairfield Bay, AR The City of Fairfield Bay was formed July 29, 1993. It provides police, fire, building and code enforcement, and the Fairfield Bay Campground.

The city also operates the Senior Community Center and The Center (aka Conference Center). Welcome to the City of Fairfield Bay! We strive to provide a safe and secure place for families to live, work and play. We are a city that embraces our newcomers to make them feel at home. The city offers a high quality of life, and if outdoor life is appealing to you and your family, we are the perfect plac

e to call home. The community is currently operated by two forms of management, the city and the community club. The City of Fairfield Bay provides police, fire, building and code enforcement, and the Fairfield Bay campground. The city also operates the senior center and the conference center. The Fairfield Bay Community Club provides public works, wastewater and the wonderful amenities that are in our community. We are proud to be home of a volunteer fire department, a volunteer recycling center and a Survival Flight helicopter.

VAN BUREN COUNTY BURN BAN IN EFFECT

Van Buren County is currently under a countywide burn ban due to increasing wildfire danger, extreme heat, and continued dry conditions.

While some areas of the county are not as dry as others, conditions overall continue to worsen. Areas around Clinton, Fairfield Bay, Damascus, and Shirley are currently showing some of the driest conditions, with drought and fuel-dryness values exceeding 700 on the KBDI.

Current forecasts are calling for 10 to 12 days of temperatures reaching or exceeding 100 degrees, with drought conditions expected to continue through at least August 25 and little indication of widespread rainfall.

Our greatest concern is from this weekend through much of the next two weeks as vegetation and other fuels continue to dry.

We must also consider the conditions our firefighters and other emergency responders are being asked to work in. With temperatures near or above 100 degrees and heat index values potentially reaching 114 to 115 degrees, the risk of dehydration, heat exhaustion, and heat stroke is very real.

A burn ban will not prevent every fire, but it can reduce the number of preventable fires caused by outdoor burning. Every fire we can prevent is one less time we are asking our first responders to work in these extreme conditions.

Residents are asked to use extreme caution with anything that could create a spark or ignite dry vegetation. Cooking in an enclosed grill is permitted at this time, but extreme caution should be used. Vehicles that have been operated should never be parked over dry grass or vegetation where a hot exhaust system could ignite a fire.

Conditions will continue to be closely monitored. The burn ban will remain in effect until sufficient rainfall and improved fire conditions make it safe to lift.

As usual, the U.S. Forest Service, Arkansas Forestry Division, and U.S. Army Corps of Engineers are exempt from the county burn ban.
