Ever wonder who gets called when a building suffers a structural collapse from a tornado or vehicle crash? 🚗🌪️

When life safety is on the line, we request assistance through regional Urban Search and Rescue (USAR) specialists—like the Butler County Technical Rescue Team and Hamilton County USAR—step in.

Last week, we were proud to host the Bowling Green State University Certified Rescue Technician class for structural collapse right here in Fairfield!

This intensive training covers everything from structural collapse to swiftwater, confined space, high-angle rope rescue, and wide-area searches. We are proud to have several Fairfield firefighters fully certified as Rescue Techs, stationed at Firehouse 33 (our dedicated rescue house)! 🚒💨

30 years have flown by! We would like to recognize the upcoming retirement and celebration of 30 years of service by Firefighter Joe Leeds. He has seen a lot of change throughout the last 3 decades of service. Firefighters, former Fairfield firefighters, family and friends of Joe are invited to a celebration on Thursday, September 17th at Firehouse 31. Hoep to see you there!

As we prepare for services for Fairfield Police Officer Officer John French, we're organizing a large police and fire presence for the procession from the church to the cemetery.

If you plan to attend and join us for the procession to the cemetery, and/or you'll be driving a marked emergency services vehicle or fire apparatus, please review the attached Facebook post from the Fairfield Police Department outlining parking and procession plans.

As we prepare to honor Officer John French, we want to share the following information regarding the services.

All sworn personnel driving marked police or fire vehicles who plan to attend the graveside service are requested to park in the lot at St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church, located at 9080 Cincinnati-Dayton Road, West Chester, OH 45069.

Please arrive with enough time to park and assemble before the procession to the cemetery. Department personnel will be on site to assist with parking and provide any additional instructions.

***RETIREMENT LUNCEHON POSTPONED***
Due to the funeral services for Fairfield Police Officer John French, the retirement luncheon and celebration honoring Deputy Fire Chief Randy McCreadie, originally scheduled for Thursday, August 6, has been postponed.

Our fire department will be standing alongside our brothers and sisters in law enforcement as we honor Officer French's life, service, and sacrifice. As a result, we feel it is appropriate to postpone this celebration so that our members can fulfill that important commitment.

We sincerely apologize for any inconvenience this change may cause and appreciate your understanding, patience, and support during this difficult time for our public safety family.

A new date for Deputy Chief McCreadie's retirement celebration has not yet been determined. We look forward to celebrating Randy's outstanding career and remarkable contributions to the Fairfield Fire Department at a later date, and we will share those details as soon as they are finalized.

This week our crews were invited to participate in training at the City of Fairfield, Ohio - Parks Acquatic Center. NOTE*** These attached pictures are TRAINING in nature and NOT from a real incident!

The lifeguards participated to demonstrate and test their own skills at identifying, accessing, recovering and resuscitating an unconscious patient from the deep end of the pool. Our actors did a fantastic job in providing immediate rescue and, prompt identification of a potential neck injury and began immediate rescue breathing and chest compressions until our EMS crew could "arrive". On our crews' arrival, the victim had been removed from the water, on a backboard, chest compressions being performed and gave our crews great information on the situation. Our crew took over, placed the CPR Compression Device (LUCAS device) on our victim and packaged her for transport!

Our lifeguards performed without a moment's hesitation! Great Job to the SwimSafe Pool Management staff.

Each year all of the fairfield Fire Department ladders get tested to make sure they still meet NFPA standards. This involves placing 500 pounds of weight in the middle of an extended ladder and mesuring the sag (before and after). The aerial devices get tested as well with the same weight at the tip of the fully extended ladder to measure the "drift" of the ladder over 5 minutes. Each of our fire appratus maintain about 100-120 feet of ladders PLUS the length of the aerial device itself, either 100 feet or 78 feet.

Today's training was the second phase in our extrication curriculum that will culminate with complex incidents and large vehicle/heavy equipment rescues in October. Our crews practiced with various scenarios involving victims trapped in some pretty precarious situations. A HUGE thanks to Andrew and his crews at Fox Towing for being such an incredible commuity partner and helping to faciliate this valuable training

Chief Cooper stopped by Station 32 yesterday to give some well-deserved kudos to the crew that helped welcome a healthy baby boy earlier this month! 👶🚑

Now, to be clear… mom did all the hard work. Our crew was simply there to help support the family, keep everyone safe and comfortable, and provide a smooth ride to the hospital where mom and baby continued their care.

We’re always honored to be there for our community’s biggest moments — and this one definitely came with the best siren soundtrack yet! Congratulations to the family on their new addition!
