The Housing First Solano Continuum of Care (CoC) Point-in-Time (PIT) Count is scheduled for the early morning of Wednesday, February 23, 2022. The purpose of the count is to obtain an annual snapshot census of people experiencing homelessness in Solano County. The unsheltered and sheltered homeless PIT Count is conducted biennially and is a requirement to receive homeless assistance funding from the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD). The PIT Count presents a great opportunity to raise awareness of the myriad challenges our homeless citizens face, hear personal experiences from those experiencing homelessness, and demonstrate the compassion and generosity of the Solano community.

The Housing First Solano Continuum of Care (CoC) PIT Count Workgroup has decided to utilize a COVID-19-related waiver being offered by the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) to postpone the unsheltered Point-in-Time Count (PIT Count) from January 25, 2021 to early 2022 in order to protect the health and safety of all those involved. The 2021 sheltered PIT count will continue as planned. No federal or state homeless assistance funding will be in jeopardy as a result of this decision and most Bay Area CoCs have also postponed their PIT Counts.

Although 2022 may feel far away, a successful PIT count requires significant planning and volunteers. Although there will be no unsheltered count in 2021, we hope you can offer your support for the 2022 count. Below are some ways to stay involved:

—— Subscribe to the CoC listserv and attend CoC meetings the fourth Wednesday of every month. Request to join the PIT workgroup to be notified of future workgroup meeting dates.

—— Continue to input "known locations" into the Counting Us app as we get closer to 2022.

—— Volunteer for the unsheltered PIT count in 2022 and recruit your friends, family, and colleagues to do so as well.

—— Donate incentives (socks, gift cards, etc.) to encourage participation in the PIT count from those with lived experience, especially youth.

Thank you for your support and we hope you continue to be involved in the Housing First Solano CoC to help us end homelessness in Solano County.

Solano County’s Coordinated Entry System

Resource Connect Solano streamlines access to life-changing housing and supportive resources for people in Solano County who are experiencing or at-risk of homelessness. Individuals and families receive assessment and referral services to identify housing needs and create linkages to available services. Using the Coordinated Entry System, we identify and facilitate the most appropriate response to each individual’s immediate and long-term housing needs. People who have been homeless the longest and are the most vulnerable receive priority access to scarce permanent housing services. Caminar, a California-based non-profit behavioral health services provider, serves as the operator for the Coordinated Entry System. Call 707.652.7311 or email [email protected] to learn how Resource Connect Solano can help you navigate your housing crisis.
