Virginia Ram Test

Virginia Ram Test The Virginia Ram Test is located at the Virginia Tech Shenandoah Valley Agriculture Research and Ext A Sheep Field Day is held in conjunction with the sale.

The Virginia Ram Test is conduced at the Virginia Sheep Evaluation Station located on the Virginia Tech Shenandoah Valley Ag Research and Extension Center. The purpose of the program is to: 1) provide a standard, impartial postweaning performance test that will furnish records which will be useful to the consignor’s breeding program, 2) to provide a source of and market for performance tested ram

s, and 3) serve as an educational tool for the sheep industry. An annual sale for rams completing the test and meeting qualification requirements is held annually the 4th Saturday in August. Additionally, a select group of commercial ewes lambs are offered for sale along with the rams.

Thanks to all those who joined us for the 48th Annual Virginia Ram Test Sale and Field Day! Special thanks to the crew at the Shenandoah Valley AREC for all they do and to the Virginia Jr Sheep Breeders for lunch. Record ram sale with 52 head averaging $809 and selling to 6 states. The 38 replacement ewe lambs averaged $304.
