First our state government creates “Zero Bail” policies putting criminals back in the street immediately. Then they suggest closing prisons to save money. Now threats to lay off public safety employees.

California Gov. Gavin Newsom says first responders will be the “first ones laid” off unless federal bucks arrive in the Golden State in the near future.

It is with great sadness that we inform you of Deputy Sheriff K-9 Hondo’s passing on Saturday 05/02/2020.

Hondo served Solano County and its residents for over 12 years and had many friends in the community.

Hondo was a dual purpose explosive detection / Patrol Apprehension K9 and was the only non military EOD K9 for approximately 8 years in Solano County. Hondo was assigned to both Patrol and the Resident Deputy team during his career. He worked closely with the Napa County Sheriff’s Office EOD team serving both Napa and Solano Counties.

Over his 12 year career Hondo was responsible for locating several guns, ammunition, explosive material, and the apprehension of many suspects. Hondo was often used for dignitary protection details, conducting explosive sweeps for prior presidents such as George W. Bush and Bill Clinton. He worked with all local agencies as well as the US Marshalls, Secret Service, and FBI. Hondo kept our county safe and loved his home town of Rio Vista.
