Jennifer Maxon-Kennelly for BOE

Jennifer Maxon-Kennelly for BOE Welcome to the Jennifer Maxon-Kennelly for BOE Page. Join Jen in the fight for a quality school system for every student in Fairfield.

Do you believe that our school system should address the needs of every student fairly? Do you believe that home values in Fairfield are tied to the quality of our schools? Do you oppose creating a majority that consistently votes against the education budget, votes against capital budget, and voted against upgrades to school security? Then stand with Jennifer Maxon Kennelly on November 3rd.

Fairfield BoE is hosting a town hall Tuesday night for back and forth conversation with residents about all matters related to Finance, Facilities, and Programs. Questions about how the BoE might meet budget cuts? Issues with educational matters? Concerned about facilities? This meeting is a great opportunity for live feedback.

Dear Friends:

I’m excited to announce that I am seeking re-election to the Fairfield Board of Education on November 7th. If you’ve followed the issues here in town, then I imagine you’d agree that now more than ever we need BOE members committed to academically sound, common-sense approaches, rather than to unproven ideology and parochial interests.

My approach has always been to seek out data-driven and best practices-accepted policies, that I truly believe best serve the unique needs of our students here in Fairfield—and to work to implement those approaches always with an eye on how they impact all of us as taxpayers.

I hope my record of service and continued commitment to excellence in our public schools will earn your support. I’m excited to get out and engage with residents during this campaign, but I can’t do this alone. I hope you will consider donating to my re-election effort here:

As the BoE searches for a new Superintendent, the feedback of all Fairfield stakeholder groups is important! Please consider attending tonight's in-person forum at RLMS.

I wrote the following on a private FB page for parents in Fairfield. As I am not comfortable with the fact that it IS "private," and in the interests of full transparency, I am including it below:
-------------------

I have been very clear for months that I am in favor of a full return of our students to in-person learning.
I am very much looking forward to hearing the plan for that full return, with dates, which Superintendent Cummings will be communicating to the BoE and public at our Special meeting in a few weeks.
We know that all lunch issues will be addressed via the building-specific plans which all principals are submitting by Feb. 18th. I look forward to working with staff in any capacity to make that happen.
However, before parents misdirect their anger, it seems to need repeating that the absolute primary issue regarding lunch from Day One has been ensuring social distancing. To target one specific food allergy policy and/or the children for whom that policy affords their legal protections and/or the parents who advocate for their children is unproductive, misplaced, and completely at-odds with how policy comes to be. NO parent wrote our policy; NO parent is singlehandedly responsible for its contents. The Board's policy committee took up that policy because of a change in state statute that required we re-examine our existing policy and make it compliant. We did this work in conjunction with many stake-holders across the town. We have re-examined that policy as issues have arisen and modified accordingly.
If anyone has questions about the policy, I would be happy to address them. If anyone has questions about the specific re-opening plan, with dates, that will be presented at our upcoming special meeting, I guess I would say to stay-tuned and to continue to voice your views and suggestions to Mr. Cummings, to Sands Cleary, and to the BoE.
