Last night, the Fairfield Fire Department was dispatched to a residence for a reported smoke condition inside the home.

Engine 1, Engine 2, and Ladder 1 responded and began investigating the source of the smoke. Crews located a burning planter pot inside the residence and quickly brought the situation under control.

Firefighters ventilated the home and checked the area to ensure there was no further hazard.

We thank West Caldwell, North Caldwell, and the West Essex First Aid Squad for their response and assistance.

Last night, the Essex County Airport hosted members of the Fairfield and other West Essex area Fire Departments for an airport familiarization drill.

Crews had the opportunity to review the layout of the airport, access points, and priority concerns that would be important during an emergency response. Trainings like this allow departments to work together, improve coordination, and better prepare for incidents that may occur in specialized locations.

We thank the Essex County Airport for hosting us and all participating departments for their continued commitment to training and preparedness.

This evening, the Fairfield Fire Department was dispatched for a reported smoke condition coming from a building.

Upon arrival, crews determined the source to be a brush fire located behind a residence that had begun extending to a nearby fence. Engine 1, Engine 2, and Engine 3 responded and quickly placed a line into service, bringing the fire under control and preventing any further extension.

Thanks to the rapid response of our firefighters, the fire was extinguished without incident.

Last night at approximately 11:30 p.m., the Fairfield Fire Department was dispatched to a residence for a reported smoke condition from an unknown source.

Upon arrival, Fairfield crews investigated and located a fire within the home’s crawlspace. Firefighters quickly stretched a handline, located the seat of the fire, and began suppression efforts.

Additional Fairfield apparatus and mutual aid companies arrived shortly thereafter to assist with checking for extension and conducting overhaul operations. Thanks to the quick actions of responding crews, the fire was contained before it could spread further throughout the structure.

We thank our members and mutual aid partners for their swift response and continued dedication to protecting our community.

This morning, the Fairfield Fire Department was dispatched for a hazardous materials incident involving a diesel fuel spill entering Deepavaal Brook.

Engine 1, Engine 3, and Squad 1 responded and quickly deployed containment booms to help prevent the spread of fuel further into the Passaic River. Crews remained on scene to monitor conditions and assist with containment efforts.

Nutley Hazmat and the New Jersey Department of Environmental Protection (DEP) responded to coordinate cleanup operations and mitigate any environmental impact.

This incident is still ongoing and cleanup efforts continue.

We thank our members and our partner agencies for their swift response and teamwork throughout the incident.
