💕Happy Tails💕

On January 14th, 2026, Solano County Sheriff’s Office Animal Control responded to a call for a small, white Chihuahua puppy with a facial injury. The puppy had been left in the middle of a baseball field and was shaking and terrified. Some Good Samaritans had already scooped up the puppy in a warm blanket to get him out of the cold January weather. Animal Control Officers responded and secured the pup. It appeared that there was something wrapped tightly around the mouth and had caused severe wounds to his snout. Unfortunately, we had no leads on who might have done this horrible act to this innocent soul.

One of our amazing vets, Dr. Anne, at the shelter took the sweet boy home for foster, so he could have a quiet place to rest and recover. Due to the binding and lack of circulation of the snout, the wounds needed time to heal. The puppy was resilient and had to undergo a facial reconstruction, but his scars tell a story of a survivor. After a month of recovery, Dr. Anne found a perfect home with her family member all the way in Massachusetts! The wonderful adopter and former airline pilot saw the pup’s ears (that have a personality all on their own!) and couldn’t help herself when she named him “Radar.”

Radar is on to happier phases of his life and is spoiled by his sweet family in Massachusetts who completely adore him! Sometimes these rescues really do take a village! Thank you to the Good Samaritans who cared, the animal control officers involved, kennel staff that cared for him, and the wonderful vet staff who went above and beyond. Last, but not least, thank you to the lovely adopter who traveled across the country to save this boy! Happy Tails, Radar! ✈️🩵

Quack Quack it’s a good thing this little duck has insurance! Thanks to Animal Control Officer Wheeler and our team of shelter vet staff Mr. Quackers has been saved. He had somehow got a piece of metal impaled through his chest. Once caught, our awesome shelter vet staff team were able to remove the metal and he has been released back to his pond with his friends! While we don’t know exactly how this happened it does serve as a reminder to make sure you clean up after yourself and pick up your trash so our animal friends don’t get hurt. Mr.Quackers would appreciate it!

On one cold VERY rainy morning Solano County Sheriff’s Office Animal Control received a report of an injured dog dumped at Potrero Hills landfill. When Officer Moore and Officer Benton arrived the dog had drug himself far past the entrance of the landfill, due to the heavy rain it was not accessible by vehicle. Officer Moore and Officer Benton along with landfill staff hiked in with leashes and finally found the poor wet, cold and injured pooch. Who once caught was sweet as can be. With the assistance from the caring staff at the landfill he was loaded into a crate and hauled out with their tractor.

Animal Control feared the worst with the extent of his injuries but refused to lose hope. Once at the Solano County Animal shelter he received radiographs and pain medication where it was confirmed he had multiple fractures that needed to be repaired.

His stars began to align for probably the first time in his life when he was approved for the UCDavis fracture repair program AND one of the staff at the landfill was willing to medical foster! We can’t say thank you enough to ALL involved for making our tough jobs a little brighter with a happy ending💕 we won’t ever forget sweet “Fig”!

We would like to take a moment to recognize and thank our outreach team, Animal Control Officer Bradley and Solano County Shelter Outreach Coordinator Ferro, for their continued dedication to serving our community. Through tireless coordination, organization, and outreach efforts, they are helping provide accessible spay and neuter services by meeting people and their pets where they are.

Their work plays an important role in reducing the number of unwanted litters, while also helping ensure pets in our community are vaccinated, microchipped, and connected with vital resources and care.

None of this would be possible without our valued partnership with SNIP Bus-Spay Neuter Imperative Project and we are extremely grateful to SNIP and the generous donors whose support helps make these services available.

For information on getting your pet spayed or neutered at one of SNIP’s public clinics, please see their contact information in the comments below.
