Solano County Animal Control recently responded to a report of a dog named Boy Boy who had become trapped on a steep creek embankment after being missing for approximately 4 hours.
After an extensive search, Boy-Boy’s owners located him adjacent to their property, stranded on a steep 60-foot creekside wall. He was approximately 10 feet below the top of the embankment, with an almost sheer drop-off beneath him. Due to the dangerous terrain, Boy-Boy was unable to climb to safety or descend any further.
Animal Control Officer Dae Kim responded to the scene and immediately began searching for a safe route to reach Boy Boy. However, the rugged hillside, dense blackberry bushes, and numerous fallen trees made access from the owner’s property impossible.
Officer Kim then identified an alternate access point from the property on the opposite side of the creek. After evaluating the situation from above, it became clear that the nearly vertical drop made any rescue attempt without specialized equipment unsafe.
The Vacaville Fire Protection District was contacted and quickly responded with technical rescue equipment and personnel. Working together, firefighters safely lowered Officer Kim down the embankment, where he was able to reach Boy Boy and secure him for the rescue.
Thankfully, Boy Boy appeared to be no worse for the experience and was safely reunited with his relieved and grateful owners.
Solano County Animal Control extends its sincere appreciation to the Vacaville Fire Protection District for their professionalism, teamwork, and willingness to assist. Their expertise and partnership helped bring this challenging rescue to a happy ending and ensured Boy-Boy was safely returned home where he belongs.
