It’s never too early to start exploring future career pathways! 🚒🚔🐾

Students at Fairfield’s Public Safety Academy got a hands-on look at careers in law enforcement, fire service, animal control, and the military during the school’s annual Public Safety Day.

The Solano WDB was proud to join the event, with Job Seeker Services Director Matt Moon-Bailey sharing information on public safety career pathways in Solano County. He also introduced students to the WDB’s Career Coach platform, available at solanoemployment.org/careercoach.

This powerful, no-cost tool helps align personal interests with career opportunities and provides detailed insight on local wage data, projected job growth, required skills, and employment opportunities right here in Solano County. It’s already been two weeks, and we’re still energized by the momentum and inspiration from the April 24 Biotech Career Expo at Solano Community College! 🧬🔬

More than 150 Solano County high school students explored the world of biotechnology through hands-on labs in DNA and genetics, conversations with local biotech professionals, and interactive career exploration activities.

From discovering new interests to learning about career pathways available right here in our community, students had the opportunity to envision what a future in biotech could look like for them.

The 2nd Annual Biotech Career Expo was hosted by the Lady Echelon Project and the Workforce Development Board of Solano County, with support from Solano Community College and Kaiser.

These days, drones are no longer just a hobby. They're opening doors to careers in fast-growing industries like construction, agriculture, public safety, real estate, and more. 🚁

For Kimberly Southall of Benicia, the future is taking flight in construction drone operations.

To help her launch her career, the Solano WDB is fully funding Kimberly’s drone pilot certification training through Drone Aviate in Auburn, along with hotel accommodations during class sessions.

Before her first class, Kimberly met with her WDB Employability Specialist, Nel Sweet-Davis, and picked up her new drone, which was also funded through the WDB.

“There’s so much you can do with a drone,” Kimberly said, adding she is also interested in cinematography. “There are a lot of different opportunities, and by working with Nel, I’ve learned not to be close-minded on what I want to do. We’ve had to pivot a few times to get to where we are.”

Kimberly is the WDB’s first client to enroll in drone training and we’re confident that as the future of work continues to evolve, she will not be the last. ✈️
