Helping to make boating safety really POP!

Our members spend time each boating season educating the public on use and wear of personal flotation devices, like the inflatable shown here.

This young boater in training was so impressed, he wanted to see it happen again! That sort of impression makes a lasting impact on how he will perceive the use of PFDs for years to come.

This week, the Portuguese Tall Ship, NRP Sagres, visited the City of New Bedford MA, which has a rich Portuguese history.

The Sagres opened her arms to the community and offered tours of this treasured vessel. The response has been overwhelming,
and the manager of the New Bedford Shipping Terminal, where the Sagres is docked, requested additional support from the local Coast Guard Auxiliary to the Port Authority Team and local Law Enforcement, to safely guide visitors along their route to the ship.

The New Bedford/Fairhaven Auxiliary reached out to the Northeast District for additional personnel. AUX Mike Sheehan, Vice Flotilla Commander of the Worcester Flotilla, journeyed to New Bedford to assist his fellow Auxiliarists during this historic event.

Dedicated members like AUX Sheehan volunteer their time and effort to assist our port partners in meaningful work, making a real difference for the safety of the public and those involved in the events.

If you've ever considered volunteering in new and interesting ways, visit www.worcesterflotilla.org or www.cgaux.org to see if our missions are a good fit for you!

This weekend, AUX Dan Grammel from our Worcester Flotilla was on hand to help feed the many men and women supporting Sail Boston in the USCG Base Boston galley. Working alongside our active-duty and reserve members, AUX Grammel and other local Auxiliarists play an instrumental role in the continued success of high profile events like Sail Boston.

Auxiliary members have access to the training and opportunities to serve in meaningful ways all across the nation and close to home, just like Dan. Sound like fun? Learn more about the US Coast Guard Auxiliary at cgaux.org, and our flotilla at worcesterflotilla.org!

Happy 4th of July!! The U.S. Coast Guard Auxiliary, Worcester Division, has partnered with the U.S. Army Corp of Engineers by providing boating safety education at their beautiful sites in Central Ma and beyond, spearheaded by Marc French, Vice Flotilla Commander of the Tri State Flotilla (pictured with an Army Corp Patrol Boat).

This is meaningful work, and we encourage all types of boaters, from paddlers, power craft and sail, to those who just enjoy the water and want to give back to their community….. to join our ranks.

We recently were asked to participate in the Town of Westborough Ma “ Love for Life Savers Event”. It showcased Police, Fire, EMT’s, Utilities, and other groups who promote/provide safety. “If Found” decals for paddle craft are a big hit, as well as information on the new Massachusetts Boating Law and of course the kids love our coloring books.
