Fairlawn - Your Volunteer Firefighters Still Need You!

A few weeks ago we launched our letter campaign asking for support from the community we proudly serve. The response so far has been encouraging and deeply appreciated. Thank you, Fairlawn.

We know the world feels uncertain right now. The current political climate and conflicts overseas, including the tensions involving Iran, can weigh heavily on people’s minds. It reminds us that the world can change quickly.

But here at home, one thing never changes.

When the tones drop at 2AM…
When smoke fills a home…
When someone calls 911 on the worst day of their life…

It’s still your neighbors who answer that call.

While our members volunteer their time, the equipment that protects them does not come free. Outfitting just one firefighter costs $12,000–$16,000 in protective gear alone. Your donations help ensure that when your firefighters respond, they do so trained, protected, and ready.

Even when the world feels uncertain, the mission here in Fairlawn remains the same:
Protecting our neighbors, our homes, and our community is our #1 priority!!!

If you’ve already given, thank you.
If you receive our letter in the coming days, please consider supporting your Fairlawn Volunteer Fire Department.

Fairlawn has always taken care of its own, and we are honored to serve this community with pride, dedication, and service since 1948.

‼️‼️ Feb. 15- Apr. 30 ‼️‼️

Virginia’s spring fire season is here, officially Feb. 15 – April 30. During that time, the statewide burn law is in effect, which prohibits outdoor fires between midnight and 4 p.m. 🔥🚫

Don't be fooled by the snow! Most of Virginia is in a drought caused by months of below-average rainfall. Already this year, DOF has responded to 80 wildfires that have burned nearly 800 acres.

The best ways you can prevent wildfires:
🔥 Wait until after the fire season to burn yard debris
🔥 If you must burn, avoid windy days
🔥 Never leave a fire unattended
🔥 Know the state burn law and local restrictions

Get more tips, and learn about the 4 p.m. burning law on DOF’s website: https://ow.ly/3SsV50Yey8q

HEADS UP Fairlawn & Radford City

PCEM will be conducting a prescribed burn that will be visible from the Fairlawn and Radford City areas.

This burn is planned, controlled, and monitored by trained professionals.

Please DO NOT call 911 or report this as a fire.

Thank you for your cooperation — and now, back to your regularly scheduled programming.

🇺🇸 Standing Strong Together — Engine 3 Supporting the Arsenal 🚒

The Fairlawn Volunteer Fire Department is proud to answer the call and stand alongside the Radford Army Ammunition Plant during their time of need. With their engine out of service, we have deployed Engine 3 on loan to ensure the arsenal remains fully protected and mission-ready.

This isn’t just a loan — it’s a commitment to the American warfighter. The RAAP plays a vital role in supplying our nation’s military, and without an in-service fire apparatus, operations at the arsenal simply cannot continue. By stepping in, we’re helping keep America’s defense mission moving forward.

We are equally honored to support the dedicated men and women who work at the RAAP — our friends, neighbors, and family members — especially during the holiday season. Their work strengthens our nation, and their safety matters to us.

Mutual aid isn’t just something we talk about — it’s something we live out. In the fire service, we take care of each other, whether it’s across town or across the river.

In Fairlawn, we believe in service, sacrifice, and standing shoulder to shoulder with those who keep our nation free. 🇺🇸🔥

Proud to serve. Proud to support. Proud to be Fairlawn Volunteer Fire Department.

Big thank you to our members who helped make the transfer quick and seamless. 🙌

P.S. To our Fairlawn community: There is no interruption in emergency response. We still have Squad 3 and Tanker 3 and a few other apparatus in service and ready to respond at a moment’s notice. You will continue to receive the same fast, reliable protection you depend on.

🇺🇸 From Fairlawn to the front lines — we proudly back the red, white, and blue. 🇺🇸

🚩 RED FLAG WARNING — But Not the Beach Kind! 🚩

Red flag warnings at the beach are for rip tides and rough waters — the kind where, if you ain’t a strong swimmer, you might meet Jesus quicker than you planned. 🏊‍♂️😅

But here in the Appalachian Mountains?
A red flag means “don’t burn unless you want the fire department to meet you… real fast.” 🔥🚒

⚠️ 11/16/25 — Red Flag Warning in Effect from 11:00 AM to 6:00 PM
Northwest winds will be kicking up to 15–25 mph, with gusts reaching 45 mph. Combine that with very dry air and humidity dropping into the 20% range, and you’ve got perfect conditions for a fire to spread faster than gossip on Facebook.

👉 Please avoid all burning today.
Even a small spark can turn into a big problem real quick under these conditions.

Stay safe, stay smart, and save the bonfires for another day! 🔥🚩

Sincerely, your 100% Fairlawn Volunteer Firefighters!!!

🔥FIRE WEATHER ALERT – PLZ READ🔥

The National Weather Service has issued elevated fire weather conditions for this afternoon.
Low humidity, gusty winds, and dry fuels mean any fire can spread quickly and get out of control.

📍 Our area is included in this alert — Southwest VA, Southeast WV, and Northwest NC.

👨‍🚒 What we’re asking from our community:
• Please avoid burning today if at all possible.
• If you must burn, use extreme caution and never leave a fire unattended.
• Keep water, a shovel, and a phone nearby.
• Call 911 immediately if a fire starts to escape your control.

Dry conditions are expected to continue into Friday — let’s help keep our community safe by staying smart.

🇺🇸 HAPPY VETERANS DAY! 🇺🇸

Today, we pause to honor the men and women who stood tall for our country — the ones who answered the call to serve, protect, and defend our freedom.

At the Fairlawn Volunteer Fire Department, we know what it means to serve — and we hold a deep respect for those who wore the uniform before us.
Your courage inspires ours.
Your sacrifice reminds us what true duty looks like.
Your legacy lights the path for every first responder who follows.

To all veterans — thank you for your bravery, your selflessness, and your unwavering love for this nation.
We salute you. 🇺🇸🔥
