⚠️Effective June 6, the penalty for driving with a mobile device in hand will be
elevated to a summary offense with a $50 fine, plus court costs and other fees.⚠️

Paul Miller’s Law, which took effect in 2025, bans the use of handheld devices while driving, even when temporarily stopped in traffic. This means drivers can NOT hold their phone or other devices while driving, even at a red light or stop sign.

Drivers will be given warnings until June 5. After June 5 drivers may be issued citations for the violation.

When riding an e-bike, follow these rules to keep yourself, as well as others sharing the road, safe:

âś…Always wear a properly fitted helmet
âś…Regularly check your tires, brakes, and ensure your e-bike is in good working order
âś…Use lights (front and rear) and reflective gear, especially when riding at night or in low-light conditions
âś…Obey all traffic signals, signs, and lane markings
âś…Be aware of your surroundings, anticipate potential hazards (like opening car doors or pedestrians), and be prepared to react accordingly.
âś…Ride in the same direction as traffic, use bike lanes when available, and take the lane when necessary for safety
âś…If you're new to e-bikes, practice in a traffic-free area before venturing into busier areas
âś…Avoid carrying passengers unless your e-bike is designed for it, and don't ride under the influence of alcohol or drugs
âś…Yield to pedestrians, especially on sidewalks or shared-use paths
âś…E-bikes can travel at higher speeds, so adjust your speed to the conditions and your comfort level.
