The holiday season often brings unwelcomed stress and depression. And it's no wonder. The holidays often present a dizzying array of demands — cooking meals, shopping, baking, cleaning and entertaining, to name just a few. And if coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) is spreading in your community, you may be feeling additional stress, or you may be worrying about your and your loved ones' health. You may also feel stressed, sad or anxious because your holiday plans may look different during the COVID-19 pandemic.

But with some practical tips, you can minimize the stress that accompanies the holidays. You may even end up enjoying the holidays more than you thought you would.

This holiday weekend is shaping up to be a chiller. Learn how to stay safe during this polar vortex.

In cold temperatures, heat can leave your body more quickly. Heat loss can lead to serious health effects, like hypothermia and frostbite.

Early symptoms of hypothermia include:
Shivering
Feeling tired
Clumsiness
Confusion

As a person’s body loses more heat:
Shivering may stop.
Skin may turn blue.
Pupils of eyes may expand (dilate).
Pulse and breathing slows
Person may lose consciousness.

If a person’s body temperature is below 95°F or has any of the above symptoms, get medical attention immediately.

According to: National Foundation for Infectious Diseases nfid.org
• RSV (Respiratory syncytial (sin-SISH-uhl) virus, or RSV, is a common respiratory virus that usually causes mild, cold-like symptoms. Most people recover in a week or two, but RSV can be serious, especially for infants and older adults.
• RSV spreads through contact with respiratory droplets (coughing, sneezing, or kissing) from an infected person or touching surfaces contaminated with the virus and then touching your eyes, nose, or mouth.
• While certain groups including premature and very young infants (≤6 months), individuals with chronic heart or lung disease, immunocompromised individuals, and older adults (65+), are at increased risk for severe disease, the potential for dangerous complications is a concern for all age groups.
