Series Five is here, and May is Mental Health Awareness Month.

Your home should be a place of comfort and stability, but homeownership can also come with stress. Between bills, repairs, maintenance, and everyday responsibilities, it can feel overwhelming at times.

Creating a healthy home environment can support both your home and your well-being.

Ways to make homeownership feel more manageable:

• Create a simple monthly budget for home expenses and savings
• Keep up with small maintenance tasks before they become larger issues
• Declutter one area at a time to create a calmer living space
• Make a list of seasonal home tasks instead of trying to remember everything at once
• Set aside an emergency fund for unexpected repairs
• Ask for help or guidance when you feel stuck on a home-related issue

Owning a home is a big responsibility, and staying organized can help reduce stress and make your home feel more manageable.

Reach out to our Homeownership Center with any questions you may have about maintaining your home or planning ahead!

Thinking about ways to use your home equity in retirement? A Home Equity Conversion Mortgage (HECM), also known as a reverse mortgage, might be an option.

HECM counseling is a required step before applying, and it’s there to protect you. During a session, you’ll get clear, unbiased information about how a HECM works, what it costs, and how it could impact your finances, home, and heirs.

We’ll walk through:
• How you can receive funds
• Your responsibilities as a homeowner
• Costs, fees, and long-term impact
• Alternatives that may better fit your situation

This is about helping you make an informed decision—not pushing you into one.

If you’re 62 or older and curious about using your home equity, reach out to schedule a counseling session or ask questions.

Series Four is here, and with tax day this week, many homeowners may be receiving a tax refund.

Before you spend it, take a moment to think about how it can support your home and your budget long-term.

Smart ways to use your tax refund as a homeowner:

• Build or add to your emergency fund for unexpected home repairs
• Make an extra mortgage payment to reduce interest over time
• Take care of small repairs before they become costly (leaks, loose fixtures, cracked caulk)
• Upgrade energy efficiency with LED lighting, insulation, or a smart thermostat
• Schedule preventive maintenance like HVAC servicing or chimney cleaning
• Pay down high-interest debt to free up monthly income

A tax refund can go quickly, but using it with a plan can save you money and stress down the road.

Reach out to our Post-Purchase Counselor at 304-363-0860 ext. 129 or [email protected] if you have questions about prioritizing home expenses or planning ahead.

Spring Lion - LEO Electrical and Electronic recycling event.

The Fairmont Lions and Midtown LEO clubs will be holding their Spring E-waste and metal recycling event from 9AM to 1PM Saturday April 18, 2026, in the parking lot of the Country Club Shops, 1228 Country Club Rd. in Fairmont. This is the parking lot for Sayboys Restaurant and Big Lots.

This event is Free to the public no matter what city or County you live in.
Instead of throwing out those items on the attached list when doing your spring cleaning, save them to bring to the recycling
