Please Note:
Today at 6:30 a.m. an alarm went off at the Water Plant notifying plant operators of a chlorine gas leak. Our operators followed safety protocol and contacted the Fairport Harbor Fire Department. The Fire Department contacted the Lake County Hazmat Team and the plant was evacuated and the building was ventilated. Hazmat crews also put a drone in the air and in the building to make sure there was no outside leak. There were no injuries, and there was no impact on our water system. The scene was cleared in a few hours.

09/07/2023

Please Note:
During the construction of a secondary waterline project on St. Clair Street an unidentified material was unearthed. We are currently working with the Ohio EPA, the Lake County Hazmat Team, Lake County EMA, and the Lake County Health Department to identify the material. Please note that this was not a water line break and this construction incident has nothing to do with our water system.
Traffic on East Street has re-opened. However, St. Clair Street remains closed as this is an ongoing investigation. Thank you.

Raising Clean Water Awareness
Public Art Installation in Fairport Harbor Memorial Park
May 19 to May 30, 2023
Keeping Lake Erie clean for future generations – that’s the goal of AQUA, a creative marketing campaign developed by students from 10 local high schools through the Excel TECC Marketing/Junior Achievement program at Beachwood High School.
The campaign consists of an installation of massive water drops designed by South African artist Neill Wright. The inflatable structures feature bold, tropical prints that capture in visual form the importance of clean water for healthy ecosystems. The installation will pop up across Greater Cleveland to educate communities about water conservation and “activate hundreds of Northeast Ohio residents to clean up area beaches.”
The installation will appear in Fairport Harbor Memorial Park from May 19 through May 30 and will feature action steps that individuals can take to conserve water. Visitors can scan a QR code displayed in the exhibit to make donations to Eriesponsible, a nonprofit that organizes Lake Erie beach cleanups.

Fairport Harbor is a member of NOPEC’s natural gas and electric aggregation programs. As a nonprofit group of over 235 Ohio communities, NOPEC negotiates lower utility rates. Since 2002, NOPEC has saved residents and businesses hundreds of millions of dollars on their energy costs. NOPEC also provides member communities with energy-saving grants, low-interest rate financing for energy-efficiency projects, and community outreach programs to help residents learn how to save even more.

How to Opt-Out:
As a resident of Fairport Harbor, you are automatically included as a member of NOPEC unless you choose not to be. Ohio has an “opt-out” program. This means that all eligible customers of an aggregated community become part of the buying group unless they take specific action to opt-out of the aggregation. Opt-out notices are sent to all eligible natural gas consumers every two years and every three years to all eligible electric consumers.

General Opt-Out FAQs : https://www.nopec.org/frequently-asked-questions/general-opt-out-faqs
Visit NOPEC’S website ( https://www.nopec.org/ ) to learn more about the NOPEC or call 1-855-667-3201 (855-NOPEC01).

Winter Storm Update:
>> Please be advised: The National Weather Service has issued several Winter Storm Watches/Warnings and Wind Chill Watches for much of Ohio in advance of an impactful winter storm. The event will begin Thursday night, with rain changing to snow as an arctic blast ushers in a rapid drop in temperature and poses a risk of a flash freeze. There is a high degree of confidence in strong winds (wind gusts between 40-60mph) associated with this system, with the strongest gusts in the north of Ohio. There is high confidence in a period of very cold temperatures Friday 12/23/22 through Sunday 12/25/22, compounded with wind chill factor leading to dangerously low temps (as low as -30F apparent temperature). Additionally, snow is expected Friday into the weekend for most of Ohio. Powdery snow and strong winds will result in blowing/drifting snow and reduced visibility.
>>> Snow: Just a reminder to residents and visitors, to move vehicles off of the streets during heavy snowfalls to allow for plowing. Whenever there is a snowfall of two inches or more, an emergency parking ban will take effect and parking is prohibited in the street. Thank you.
