An announcement from the Village of Fairport Harbor and VFW 7754 regarding the Veterans Memorial:

The Veterans of Foreign Wars (VFW) along with the Village of Fairport Harbor are working on a plan to replace the current monument to honor the Veterans and the Citizens of Fairport Harbor. On Memorial Day, Monday May 30th beginning at 9:00 a.m., there will be a ceremony to acknowledge the Veterans Memorial that has been in place since 1945. The memorial has seen many repairs and upgrades, but it has reached a point where it is no longer easily accessible to the public.

Discussions on a rendering for a new memorial are underway. Please be assured that all of the names currently on the Memorial have been recorded and will appear on the new Memorial. Please send any inquiries to: [email protected].

10/10/2022

In response to numerous comments and questions regarding the Veterans Memorial: This is Village project since it is on Village property. There is a committee comprised mainly of Village officials, Fairport Harbor citizens, and just 1 VFW officer. Please contact the Village to ask when the next meeting is and the best way to have your concerns heard. This is not a VFW project but our members are trying to help raise the necessary funds.

Where can I get a VFW-World War II flag holder for the cemetery. The one that was on my dad's grave is no longer there. I guess someone took it. My name is Debbie Bennington and my e-mail is [email protected]

My name is Cassandra Taylor; I am a 28 years Army Veteran, I served during Operation Desert Storm/Desert Shield and Operation Iraqi/Enduring Freedom. I am the Founder & CEO of Top Flight Defense, Inc, a 501c3 nonprofit organization (EIN 84-3989318) for women veterans. Our non-profit organization was established in January 2020, right at the beginning of COVID19. But the group of ladies that work with this organization did not let that stop them from doing the work to reach the women veterans and the women in their community. We just completed our 1st Gala honoring women veterans and it turned out great! However, our work is not done it has only just begun and we need organizations such as yourself in order to sustain.
Visit our website at www.topflightdefenseinc.org to see the works that we have done over the past 18 months. If you could find it in your heart to make a donation to our organization so that we can continue to service the women veterans and the women in our community, that would be truly appreciated. Methods of payment are: Zelle or PayPal through topflightdefenseinc@gmail. If you have any questions please don’t hesitate to contact me at (815)714-9144.
Respectfully yours,
Cassandra Taylor

The scheduled date for this event is November 1, 2020. With alternate dates of November 7th, 2020. We will supply leaf bags and rakes, and the manpower. Please sign up with your VFW Post or complete our online contact form at http://honoringourheroes.org/contact
All who sign-up to have their lawns raked will be contacted by phone about 1 week prior, so please furnish your phone number when adding your name. We ask that you sign up by Oct 20th.

We have been trying to get the war memorial list fixed for 5 years now, have told everyone we could think of, and just ignored. My husband is on there with incorrect spelling of his name, and under no war, he is just listed. He is a vietnam veteran from Fairport, and it should be noted and spelled properly.
