So, I used to think the scariest thing on the canal path was a goose in a bad mood. Turns out I was wrong. Itās e-bikes.
I've been getting a LOT of messages lately on this topic.
These bikes move fast, a lot faster than a regular bicycle, and when you're sharing a path with kids, dog walkers, runners, and families out for a stroll, that speed catches people off guard. I've heard from folks who've had genuine close calls out there, and that's not something I take lightly.
I'm also hearing that a lot of riders, including some younger ones, aren't wearing helmets. And honestly, there's just a lot of confusion right now about what's even allowed. What's okay on the path versus the road, who's supposed to be enforcing what, none of it feels clear right now, and I get why that's frustrating.
I'm actively talking with the village, Monroe County, and the surrounding towns to figure out a shared approach. I don't have a tidy answer for you yet. But I wanted you to know this is very much on my radar, and I'm not sitting on it. More to come as we work through it.
