Croatian Relief Services, Inc. We are dedicated to providing & sharing a home to 51 orphaned/abandoned children living at our orphanage in Bon Repos, Haiti. Fr. The response from Fr.

Croatian Relief Services is a 501(c)(3) humanitarian organization that has been in operation since 1992. Giordano Belanich founded CRS to address the needs of the Croatian and Bosnian communities during the Balkan War. What began as a simple request for food, clothing, and medicine during a Sunday mass grew into the successful humanitarian organization, Croatian Relief Services, Inc. Giordano’s pa

rishioners was overwhelming. Supplies came pouring in. It soon became necessary to expand the operation. Fr. “Gio,” as he is called by friends, family, and parishoners, applied for 501(c)(3) status, and Croatian Relief Services became an official humanitarian aid organization. Croatian Relief Services soon received an anonymous donation which allowed for the purchase of a warehouse facility. Supplies and donations continued to pour in, and Croatian Relief Services continued to grow in its outreach. Dozens of containers of supplies were shipped to Croatia and Bosnia for the duration of the war and recovery efforts, improving the lives of tens of thousands of survivors and refugees. Expansion of Aid Around the World

Once the violence died down in the Balkans, Croatian Relief Services redirected its resources to help the victims of numerous natural disasters. From earthquakes in South America to the Tsunami in Southeast Asia, Croatian Relief Services continued its outreach. CRS began sending supplies to Haiti in 2007. Giordano quickly learned of Haiti’s dire state of affairs and decided to focus Croatian Relief’s efforts on the poorest nation in the western hemisphere. Before long, a decision was made. Croatian Relief Services would open an orphanage. With the help of our generous donors, we were able to purchase two adjacent properties in the neighborhood of Bon Repos in 2009. In 2010, a catastrophic 7.0 earthquake hit Port-au-Prince, turning the countries dire situation into desperation. Croatian Relief Services was needed now more than ever. Within a few short months of the earthquake, Croatian Relief Services was able to open the doors of the Cardinal Stepinac Children’s Home. Dozens of orphaned and abandoned children were rescued. The CSCH has been running smoothly since 2010, and is currently home to over 40 children. These children are given food, clothing, shelter, medical attention, and an education. They receive lots of love and affection from our nannies and volunteers, and they are given the opportunity to grow in a healthy, nurturing environment.

A magnitude 7,2 earthquake struck Haiti on Saturday morning, seismologists said, shaking the country. The quake struck five miles from the town of Petit Trou de Nippes in the western part of the country, about 80 miles west of Port-au-Prince. Seismologists said it had a depth of seven miles. It was felt as far away as Jamaica, 200 miles away.
There were no immediate reports of fatalities, but pictures and video posted on social media showed collapsed structures in the aftermath of the quake.

Vulnerable families extend their thanks for helping them with Food donations. Our programe for community outreach is going strong. We have nine families we help with Food monthly, and a few families that arrive from the country when they’re in passing through the capital. We also reach out when they have medical emergencies or any kind of urgency.
Unrests and violence took over the capital, it is a true challenge to walk the streets or travel, we are perpetually worried for our staff and the children. We have a program we’d like to put in motion in regards supporting expecting single mothers. We are hoping for your support as well as prayers. Haiti is still hurting, or as our founder often says: ‘when the world coughs, Haiti gets pneumonia.’

We eat freedom soup on Wednesdays.

The reference comes from traditional Haitian pumpkin soup, mildly spicy native to Haitian cuisine symbolizing Haitian independence, a delicacy reserved for French slave masters in the past. Natives and slaves were not allowed to eat the soup hence, when Haitians threw out the French becoming the First Free Black Republic in the world, they vested this previously forbidden food with new meaning. The soup became a symbol of Haitian independence and freedom. Bon apetit!

Due to a series of unfortunate circumstances and some tragic events that took place in recent weeks in Haiti, we decided to reinforce our orphanage and Center from the intruders. The photos show the iron bars on all the windows and doors of the orphanage. Above all we want safety for our children and the staff, and in order to empower them, we wed to provide safe haven where they grow feeling safe and protected.
Thanks to everyone supporting us and donating to the cause. May God bless you!
