A Gem in a Storage Locker!

What would you do if you opened a storage locker and found more than 40 backpacks filled with school supplies?

That's exactly what happened to Seth, a Camp Big Sky board member who purchases storage lockers. When he discovered several dozen backpacks filled with school supplies, he wasn't sure what to do with them. He mentioned the find to Haven Kensinger, Executive Director of Camp Big Sky, and her response was immediate: "Jamieson Community Center."

Last year, Nancy and Melissa attended a workshop hosted by the Galesburg Community Foundation, where they met Haven and shared information about the programs and services offered by Jamieson Community Center. Thanks to that connection, these backpacks found their way to us.

This generous in-kind donation is a tremendous blessing and will help support our STARS School Supply Program, providing Warren County students in grades K–8 with the supplies they need to start the school year ready to learn.

🐟🎣 Check out these incredible catches from last week at Camp Big Sky! We managed to reel in 7-pound catfish with the help of Rob from Illinois Department of Natural Resources. The thrill of the bite and the fight on the line was unforgettable!

✨Camp Big Sky’s 17th Annual Fishing Tournament was another one for the books! Thank you to our many volunteers, community partners and sponsors for helping us reach our fundraising goals.

With 10 boating teams and 20 bank fisherman, our campers showed us the true spirit of camaraderie and sportsmanship, cheering each other on until the finish. 🎣 🏆

We thank everyone who participated, volunteered, and supported the event. We look forward to planning future events that continue to promote inclusivity and engagement within our community. Stay tuned for more pictures! ✨

In loving memory of Karla, who left us too soon but whose impact will resonate in the hearts of many. As a long standing volunteer and board member of Camp Big Sky, she dedicated her life to serving individuals with disabilities, championing their rights and advocating for inclusion in all aspects of life. Her unwavering commitment to Camp Big Sky was evident in every project she undertook and every smile she brought to the faces of our campers 💕

As we honor Karla’s legacy, let us continue her work and hold her values close to our hearts. We are grateful for your generosity and service above self. Rest in peace, dear friend. Your light will continue to shine bright in our memories and in our actions ✨🪽🙏
