At approximately 7:34 AM yesterday, the Falconer Fire Department was dispatched to 337 West Main Street following reports of smoke in the building.
Upon the arrival of Car 402, heavy fire was observed coming from a first-floor apartment and established command. Command immediately performed a primary search, clearing the apartment adjacent to the fire unit. Fire crews arrived shortly after and made entry into the building to clear the remaining units. At the time of the incident, it is believed that 8 of the building's 12 apartments were vacant, and the fire-involved unit was occupied, however the tenant and her daughter were not home at the time of the fire and they are being assisted by the Red Cross.
The fire was quickly brought under control within approximately 20 minutes. Significant fire damage was successfully limited to the original apartment of origin. We are grateful to report that no injuries were sustained by civilians or emergency personnel.
The Chautauqua County Fire Investigation Team responded to the scene to determine the origin and cause. While the official investigation is ongoing, initial findings suggest the fire may have been caused by an electrical issue in the bedroom.
