Falfurrias Fire Department Serving the City of Falfurrias and Brooks County since 1929 The Falfurrias Fire Department is, and always has been a non-profit organization.

During the 1920’s the emerging community of Falfurrias suffered a devastating fire, the Falfurrias Mercantile building burned resulting in over $81,000 in damages. As a result the community recognized the need for a fire department …and in 1929 the Falfurrias Volunteer Fire Department was formed. It relies on the income from its annual fundraiser and monetary donations from the community that is p

roudly serves, to assist with operating cost; maintenance cost; and the cost of personal protective equipment used to keep firefighters safe. The Falfurrias Fire Department has grown from 2 firefighting apparatus’s and a handful of firefighters, to 18 apparatus’s and 26 firefighters, to help meet the needs of the growing population. Needs such as structural fires, vehicle fires, wild land fires, vehicle extraction, and rescues.

The Falfurrias Fire Department and Southern Brooks Fire Department assisted with operations at the Sandy Fire today.

Our crews have completed their assignment and are now safely back at the station.

We would like to thank all of our firefighters for their hard work and dedication, as well as all of the local and state agencies continuing to work the fire. Please keep all personnel still on scene in your thoughts and prayers as they continue operations. 🚒🔥

🔥 SANDY FIRE UPDATE 🔥

Fire crews from Kenedy County, Willacy County, and Hidalgo County are currently working the Sandy Fire.

The fire is traveling west; however, there is currently no threat to Brooks County.

Residents in southern Brooks County may experience smoke and haze from the fire. Please use caution while traveling in areas where smoke may reduce visibility.

Please keep all firefighters, first responders, and support personnel working this fire in your thoughts and prayers as they continue their efforts to contain the fire and protect surrounding communities.

We will continue to provide updates as conditions change.

🚸 CROSSWALK SAFETY: BE SAFE. WALK SMART. DRIVE SMART. 🚸

The City of Falfurrias Police Department, in partnership with the Texas Department of Transportation (TxDOT), is reminding our community that crosswalk safety is a shared responsibility. Whether you’re behind the wheel or on foot, stay alert, follow traffic signals, and watch out for one another—especially during school hours.

🚗 DRIVERS:
✅ Keep crosswalks CLEAR — do not stop or park over them.
✅ Watch carefully for children and pedestrians at intersections.
✅ YELLOW means SLOW DOWN and prepare to stop — NOT speed up!
✅ Use extra caution in school zones and during school arrival and dismissal times.
✅ Yield to pedestrians and check crosswalks before making a turn.
✅ Put the phone down and keep your attention on the road.

🚶 PEDESTRIANS:
✅ Cross at designated intersections and crosswalks whenever available.
✅ WAIT FOR THE WALK SIGNAL before entering the roadway.
✅ Pay attention to pedestrian countdown signals and do not begin crossing when the DON’T WALK signal is displayed.
✅ Never assume a driver sees you — make sure traffic has stopped before crossing.
✅ LOOK LEFT. LOOK RIGHT. LOOK LEFT AGAIN. 👀

⚠️ A few extra seconds of patience can prevent a tragedy.

Drivers and pedestrians both have a role in keeping our children, families, and community safe.
