Bristol Holocaust and Genocide Center The Holocaust and Genocide Center sponsors speakers, workshops, conferences and has a library special collection

The Holocaust and Genocide Center at Bristol Community College (Bristol) originated from a need to memorialize the atrocities committed against the people of Jewish descent and others by the Hitler/Nazi regime during World War II. Our history:

A variety of faith communities have worked to sponsor events dealing with the Holocaust in the southeastern Massachusetts area, many under the auspices of

the Jewish Federation of Greater New Bedford’s Holocaust Education and Memorial Committee. In addition for the past 18 years, Bristol has offered a course entitled: Remembering the Holocaust in Literature and History. To augment both of these projects, the Holocaust and Genocide Center found its home at Bristol. The Bristol Holocaust and Genocide Center sponsors speakers, workshops, conferences related to Holocaust and genocide education and awareness. In addition, the Bristol library hosts a special collection of Holocaust and genocide related materials for use by the Bristol community and general public. The Bristol Holocaust Center, now in its 8th year, provides historical information, educational experiences, and multimedia resources to communicate the suffering, pain and death of innocent millions who were impacted by the Holocaust and other genocides.

Hi Everyone:
Yesterday the Center spent some time at the Student Resource Fair in G Building. We had free books, snacks and drinks, cards and envelopes to make Passover and positivity notes and lists of our upcoming programs, as well as a new info sheet I put together for students. I was happy we had a lot of visitors and most let me take pictures! Here are a few. The free books were a hit!

As we recover from the recent storm, many are struggling due to delayed cleanup. Let's spread hope and kindness by checking in on neighbors, especially the elderly and anyone else who may need additional help. Our Center and its committees and subcommittees send positive thoughts, prayers, and well wishes to everyone impacted.

Today is International Holocaust Remembrance Day, a poignant reminder of our Center's mission to empower a brighter future by educating against genocide. On this solemn day of reflection, let us honor the survivors and the countless lives lost, acknowledging the profound impact of this tragedy on generations. By remembering, sharing, teaching, and learning, we can illuminate the path to a world where such atrocities are a relic of the past, and together, we can work towards a future where genocide is eradicated globally.

Greetings, everyone. I have included two photographs from the DC Holocaust Museum, which I attended as part of a conference. The exhibits had a profound impact on me, and I regret that I did not capture more images. One of the photos shows a N**i infirmary, note the cage surrounding one of the beds. This enclosure was used to confine mentally ill or disabled patients, highlighting the role of healthcare professionals in the N**i's “euthanasia” program.

I had the pleasure of meeting Janet Applefield and her daughter Deb when she came to soeak ar Bristol. Her son will be coming to our Holocaust and Genocide Center this fall as a Keynote speaker with Janet. If the weather permits this would be a great event to attend in honor of National Holocaust Remembrance Day.

Attendees will hear the story of a child who survived the Holocaust at 6 p.m. Jan. 27 at the Fall River Public Library.
