Universal Child Care Program Proposal

Common Start Coalition is working to provide truly affordable, accessible, high-quality childcare and early childhood education to every child in Massachusetts. A new statewide poll of Massachusetts voters, conducted on behalf of the Common Start Coalition, demonstrates strong public support for investments in early education and child care, with 73% of the state’s voters backing the Common Start proposal to create a universal childcare program in Massachusetts.

As we prepare for the new legislative session in January, 73% of the state’s voters back the Common Start proposal. Visit the Common Start MA website to learn how you can get involved and amplify the message:

Regina and I got to perform one of our favorite duties of the holiday season today! We delivered close to 50 beautiful adult and children’s scarves to the United Way of Greater Fall River, Inc. to complement the coats they will be distributing to families in need as a result of their annual coat drive.
Every scarf was lovingly crocheted by the ladies of our Convivio Lusitsno, our Portuguese language senior socialization group.
We would like to thank the Direção Regional das Comunidades of the Governo dos Açores, for their financial support of this initiative.

It was a pleasure and honor to end our work week yesterday with a visit from the Portuguese Ambassador to the United States, Dr. Francisco António Duarte Lopes, along with the Portuguese Consul in New Bedford, Dr. Rogério Lopes, and the Coordinator of Portuguese Language Studies in the United States, Dr. Joao Caixinha.
It was a nice reminder of our roots as an organization that was founded in 1979 to serve the needs of the Portuguese immigrant community- experience and knowledge that still helps inform the work we do to serve the needs of all in our community, particularly immigrants from all corners of the world.
