Human trafficking is often closer than we think. It can happen in any community, and the people being trafficked may not look like victims.

Hidden in Plain Sight: A Human Trafficking Awareness Forum will bring together experts and organizations working to prevent human trafficking and support survivors for a moderated panel discussion. Young people, parents, educators, and community members are encouraged to attend.

Few updates regarding Fuel Assistance (HEAP): 1) The online application portal is now open! If you're in need of a PIN, please contact the Fuel office. 2) All mail applications should be received in the next few weeks; please reach out to us if you do not receive or need to change address. 3) The Fuel office will be closed the mornings of Oct 7 and Oct 8 and will reopen between 1PM - 4PM. Drop-off box is always available. Thank you!

Peace Begins With Us Youth Peace Poster Contest
Submissions due Sunday, November 15

What does peace look like to you?

The Peace Begins With Us Youth Peace Poster Contest invites young artists to show how people their age can help create peace in their school, neighborhood, community, or world through kindness, inclusion, understanding, and positive action.

Open to Greater Fall River youth ages 14–18, the contest offers Visa gift card prizes of $50, $30, and $20 for the top three entries. Six posters will also be selected for the 2027 Peace Calendar, and a community People's Choice vote will determine which artwork is featured on the calendar cover!

Submissions are due November 15. Traditional and digital artwork are welcome; all entries must be original, and generative AI may not be used. Minimum size of 11"x14"

Mother Nature sent us a gloomy chill this morning for the United Way of Greater Fall River, Inc.’s annual United We Move campaign kickoff event, but Team SER had fun anyway. There’s nothing like stunning nature, an amazing cause, and a great sense of community and teamwork to make for a successful endeavor whatever the New England weather throws our way!

Massachusetts DPH Community Health Equity Survey

The state of Massachusetts has launched its 2026 Community Health Equity Survey to better understand the day-to-day challenges of its residents.

This initiative gathers vital data regarding local economic needs, social environments, and structural barriers to health across our communities. Organizers are also providing multilingual promotional toolkits so that local leaders can easily share the survey links within their own neighborhood networks.

“For the 2026 edition, “Mornas con Storia” under the storytelling of Any Delgado, the architect of this project, she invites the public to discover one of the most fascinating chapters in the history of Cabo Verdean music: the evolution of the *morna* following Cabo Verde’s Independence.
Under the theme "Evolution," this journey celebrates the composers who knew how to revitalize the *morna* without ever stripping away its essence. While respecting the legacy of the great masters, they opened new horizons through bolder poetry, richer harmonies, innovative arrangements, and musical influences that mirrored Cabo Verde’s opening to the world while steadfastly preserving its identity.
Throughout the show, works by composers such as Paulino Vieira, Betú, Kaká Barbosa, Constantino Cardoso, Luís Lima, Tito Paris, Zezé di Nha Reinalda, and other authors who wrote a new chapter in the history of *morna* will be revisited.
More than just a concert, “Mornas con Storia – Evolution” is a journey through the stories hidden behind the songs, the power of the poetry, the subtlety of the harmonies, and the creativity of the arrangements that keep alive a unique musical expression—now recognized as Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity.
For *morna* has never ceased to evolve. And it is in this capacity to reinvent itself—without losing its soul—that its timelessness lies.
For this 2026 edition, we will feature Calú Bana as a special guest and renowned vocalist”.
