Happy Friday 💙💪🏼

I just wanted to come on here and say, no matter how bad you think things are, they can always be worse and as hard as our situation feels, I know someone else is facing something even more dire.

Most of the time, when I come down to my workshop this early, while everyone is sleeping, I channel my anger and sadness into a project that I hope will make a kid smile. It also gives me a chance to process everything we’re up against.

Some days, it all feels insurmountable. I let myself feel bad for us for five minutes, then I regain my faith, buckle up, go upstairs & attack the day.

I take the helplessness I feel about the things I can’t control and pour it into a project or sensory build. Other times, I find another way to move the needle on the playground so I can bring home some much needed good news, because creating, helping and working hard have become the only ways I know how to fight back.

I can’t control the difficult days that come with cancer and autism, but I can turn our pain into purpose and try to make a difference everyday.

Don’t take a good day for granted. If there’s something you need to say or something you want to do, get it done. None of us is promised another season or even another beautiful Friday like today. Enjoy it and make the most of it.

Have a great Friday

Jess is in Boston today for an important MRI, and we’re still waiting on the results from her PET scan. So this morning, it was just Mae and me sending Skylar off for her first day of sophomore year at the new Diman.

Here’s to keeping that lifelong honor-roll streak alive! She almost missed the bus 😆, but that’s basically our lifestyle now—running late, living on the edge, and somehow making it work.

Have an amazing year, Baby Girl Number One! I’m so proud of you. ❤️

We’ve been working hard behind the scenes for the last few months, and we’re almost there! Something special is coming next week.Something guaranteed to make a difference in our city.

We can’t give too much away just yet because we’re still making improvements and adding the finishing touches each day but Mae’s Playground and the Elks Lodge, with help from Spectrum Empowerment Productions, are beyond excited to see this project come to life.

It may only look like a trunk full of boxes and sensory toys, but trust me, it’s so much more than that. 💙

Sending your child into a new environment is never easy, especially when they can’t come home and tell you how their day went. As Mae begins kindergarten next week, I’m feeling every bit of that worry and hope. To every special-needs parent starting a new school year: you’re not alone, and I hope this is a great year for all our children. ❤️

I retrofitted an old carriage so Mae could take her boat out for a ride. She loved every second and started whining whenever I slowed down. 😂 She’s getting so big, pulling her around definitely took a lot more energy this year!

We also met a neighbor who owns the house on the corner of the park. His great-granddaughter is on the spectrum, and he can’t wait for her to enjoy Mae’s Playground. It’s awesome knowing we have good people nearby who care about the park and are looking out for this special space. ❤️

Happy Friday, everyone. It’s just Mae, Rubi, and me this Friday morning.

Jess was picked up by her dad at 6 a.m. for a scheduled PET scan in Boston, and they’re already on their way home.
Tonight, we’ll sit down together and go through the results. They might bring us more hope, they might make us cry, or they might simply bring relief until the next scan. Whatever comes our way, we’ll face it together.💙💪🏼

It’s something I wish no family ever had to go through. But these days, I find so much beauty in something other people might simply call normal, like watching Mae and Rubi in a rare moment cuddling on the couch this morning.❤️

Never take those little moments for granted. Sometimes it’s the smallest blessings that get you through the hardest times.💙💪🏼
