Dear Santa,
My name is Sadie, and I just celebrated my first birthday in the shelter system. I originally came from an abusive home and was taken in by a new family with the best intentions; however they were unable to keep up with my energy level and training.

You see, I am deaf, and this can be a little tricky when communicating with me. Please don’t let that turn you away from me, I am very sweet, a quick learner and with continued guidance I will continue to grow.

I am extremely fortunate to be able to spend my days at New England Dog Training where I can run and play with my friends for hours, but each day I watch them get picked up by their families. Their people are so happy to see them- they hug and kiss them at pick up and tell them how much they missed them. I can’t help but watch and wonder if I will ever know what that feels like.

Santa, in your travels leading up to Christmas Eve, can you please keep an eye out for my family? I know they are out there somewhere, waiting for me like I am waiting for them. Can you tell them that I don’t need much? People who love me, a lap for me to lay my head, and the time and patience to get to know me.

I know you are super busy, but I have been waiting for 13 weeks-94 days exactly, for a family to call my very own.
This is my Christmas Wish-to have my forever home for the holidays.
Love,
Sadie

On this day 153 years ago, a horse race occurred where two of the best horses in our state were driven 40 miles from Boston to Worcester, each pulling two men over rough roads. The horses were driven to their untimely and cruel deaths as a result.

Our founder, George T. Angell, wrote of this in his autobiography:

"When I saw record of this cruel race, my determination was at once taken. I said to myself, “Somebody must take hold of this business, and I might as well as anybody.”
I sat down and wrote the following letter:
To the Editors of the Boston Daily Advertiser:
In your paper of this morning, I see that the race on Saturday terminated in the death of the winning horse. (I had not then heard of the death of the other.) I find also that the horse was driven over the rough roads of that day, the whole distance from Boston to Worcester, and drawing two men, at an average speed of fifteen and two sevenths miles per hour. It seems to me that it is high time for somebody to take hold of this matter in earnest, and see if we cannot do something in Boston, as others have in New York, to stop this cruelty to animals. And I wish further to say through your columns, that I, for one, am ready to contribute both time and money; and if there is any society or person in Boston, with whom I can unite, or who will unite with me, in this matter, I shall be glad personally or by letter to be informed.
George T. Angell, 46 Washington St.”

George's determination and generosity following this horse race led to the formation of the Massachusetts Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals, or, as you know us today, the MSPCA-Angell .

Hello, I work with the Pet Food Task Force (petfoodtaskforce.org), and we have worked with 150 food pantries around MA to provide donated pet food. Our goal is to help ensure pets don't go hungry, and at the same time, ensure that families in need can feed their pets. We are looking for a couple of volunteer pet food transporters in Fall River, who would be able to move food from point a to point b in Fall River. If you are interested, please message me and I'll share the full details of the job opportunity. Thanks!
Found near St. Annes Hospital. This friendly young male cat was found on Osborn St. last night. He walked into the finders home.
PLEASE DON'T LEAVE PETS OUTSIDE! With temps so low, frostbite sets in at 10 minutes. Toes lost at 30 minutes. Pad damage at 15 minutes.
I live on Smithies St. A fairly new resident has a hound, I believe a beagle they had outside in the storm at 9:30-10:05 with the high winds. They put it in the back yard whenever no one is home and for about 30 minutes nightly where the dog barks continuously. During the storm, I got dressed and was on my way there when they took it inside. I felt considering the 60 mph gusts, it should not be left out for that long, even if 30 minutes. If necessary, would bd willing to document times and how long left out. I'm amazed more people have not complained. How/what is needed please? § 6-14 Barking dogs. A. Nighttime repetitive barking. An owner, as that term is defined under § 6-1, shall not allow his dog to bark in the open, outside of any building, repetitively for more than 30 minutes during the nighttime quiet hours between 9:00 p.m. and 7:00 a.m. B. Nuisance and/or excessive barking. Nuisance and/or excessive barking by any dog during the hours of 7:00 a.m. to 9:00 p.m. due to owner neglect, as determined by the animal control officer, shall be subject to the fines provided in Subsection C hereof. C. An owner of any dog which violates Subsection A or B above shall be subject to fines as set forth in § 6-12 of this chapter. D. Nothing in this § 6-14 shall limit or prevent written complaints to the Chief of Police on this subject as provided in MGL c. 140, § 157.
There are a couple of Muskovy ducks that were dumped at Britland park earlier this year. They can't fly and won't make the winter without shelter and food. Can't they be captured and rehomed for at least the next couple of months?
Lost today while moving furniture. Please let me know if you see him. In the area of Lindsey St on the North end. Thank you.
