Protect Girls Sports Initiative Update: Signature Collection Underway!
Dear Team Lombardo,
Our team wanted to officially let you know that the signature collection for the Protect Girls Sports initiative has officially kicked off and is underway!
Qualifying this measure for the ballot will require a coordinated statewide effort to gather signatures and engage volunteers across Nevada. Our team is aiming to collect 200,000 signatures by the end of May. Your county parties, groups, clubs, and the strength of your personal and professional networks will play a critical role in helping us reach that goal.
You can find a document with an overview of the Protect Girls Sports initiative by clicking HERE.
It is very important that this process is done correctly so that every signature collected is valid, has no issues, and will be counted.
Please read carefully and follow all do’s and don’ts for signature collection:
DO'S
Allow voters to read the entire initiative description before deciding to sign the petition.
Ask if the individual is a registered voter, as only registered voters count.
Bring an extra clipboard and black or blue pens while collecting.
Research the congressional district boundaries if you are unfamiliar with them.
If the voter is unsure of their congressional district, have this link bookmarked on your phone (https://www.house.gov/representatives/find-your-representative).
Go door to door in neighborhoods, this will significantly increase the validity rate of the signatures you collect and help keep them organized by congressional district.
Encourage voters to add their zip code.
Get your petition notarized before turning it in.
Read up on the initiative before heading out to collect.
You must have signatures done in pen.
DON'TS
DO NOT pressure anyone into signing the petition. If someone is hesitant to sign, you can let them know that by signing the petition, it does not mean they are voting yes, they are simply allowing the initiative to be placed on the ballot to let voters decide.
DO NOT argue, fight or cause a scene if you collect at public locations (grocery stores, Walmart, etc.) and are asked to leave. Remember, everything is on camera, and we do not want any negative press.
DO NOT mix signatures and congressional districts; one factor in signature validity is that each petition can only have signatures from one congressional district.
DO NOT assist anyone in signing the petition for any reason.
DO NOT make up names or addresses and add them to the petition; that is fraud and is illegal.
DO NOT leave your petitions in the car or anywhere unattended, keep them in a safe and secure location at all times.
Petition packets are available for pickup at the following locations. When you are picking up packets, you MUST fill out the petition sign-out sheet with the required information.
