Sixth graders at Mary Ellen Henderson Middle School tested local water quality, found pollution headed for nearby waterways, and organized an Earth Day cleanup. The unit earned MEHMS a spot in the Virginia Naturally School Recognition Program. Meridian hosts the 2nd Annual Mustang Girls' Golf Invitational Sept. 9. Mt. Face painting, cotton candy, vertical jump challenges, and a putting green kept families busy until kickoff. Girls Volleyball opened the season with road wins and a 3-0 sweep of Hayfield. Mary Ellen Henderson and Meridian High School are a partner of Food For Neighbors who helps connect donors in our neighborhoods with the food pantry. Five times a year food is collected from the donors in our community and brought to our food pantry where it is packed and distributed to students weekly. Tonight, the Mustang Athletic Boosters host the Kickoff Tailgate at 5:30 p.m. with mascots, food trucks, games, and free admission for PreK-5 students with a parent. The school year is underway. Families packed Meet-the-Teacher Days at Oak Street, Mt. Daniel, and Jessie Thackrey, and open houses welcomed students and families on the Secondary Campus.

Danny the Hippo met his newest fans at the FCEPTA kindergarten play date.

The Mustang Community Tailgate is August 28, 5:30 to 7 p.m., ahead of the 7 p.m. kickoff. Food trucks, face painting, games, free admission for elementary students.
