Today, we remember September 11, 2001, and the lives forever changed by that day.

We honor those who were lost, the first responders and emergency personnel who answered the call, and the countless people who stepped forward to help in the days that followed.

The events of September 11 also underscored the importance of preparedness, strong emergency management programs, and the work done long before a crisis occurs.

EMAP honors those who continue that work every day by strengthening emergency management programs and helping communities and organizations build the capabilities they need to be ready.

National Preparedness Month is a good time to take a fresh look at how your emergency management program is helping others prepare.

FEMA's Ready Campaign has released its 2026 National Preparedness Month Partner Toolkit, with ready-to-use social media messages, graphics, and other resources that emergency management programs can use and share with the people and communities they serve.

This year's theme, Americans Stand Ready, focuses on the role individuals, families, and communities can play in preparing for emergencies and disasters.

In her latest Chair's Corner, EMAP Commission Chair Jody Ferguson considers what it takes to move beyond awareness and make preparedness part of the work we do all year. She shares why preparedness cannot be something organizations revisit only when an emergency is approaching and how EMAP accreditation can help make continuous improvement part of that work.
