Wanna get away? Try donating.

Seriously.

When you donate platelets or plasma,
- you get a comfy chair
- a comfy blanket and/or pillow
- something to watch, listen to, read or just relax
- time to sip on a soda or snack away on something yummy

And you get to do that WHILE SAVING LIVES.

Donors like Megan (in the pictures below; courtesy of our awesome donor center at Lackland AFB) gave lifesaving products by getting away. You can do the same!

Go to www.militarydonor.com to find a location near you.

The time is NOW to get away.

Have you recently recovered from COVID-19?
You may be interested in helping others by donating convalescent plasma. Convalescent plasma is donated by patients who have recovered from the infection. The antibodies present in convalescent plasma are proteins that help other patients fight an active infection. There is information that suggests convalescent plasma may help some patients recover from COVID.
If you have been symptom-free for 14 days or more and want to donate, contact our Blood Donor Center at (910) 450-3458 to find out if you are eligible.

Our Story

Since 1962, the Armed Services Blood Program has served as the sole provider of blood for the United States military. As a joint operation within the Defense Health Agency, the ASBP collects, processes, stores and distributes blood and blood products to Soldiers, Sailors, Airmen, Marines and their families worldwide. As one of four national blood collection organizations trusted to ensure the nation has a safe, potent blood supply, the ASBP works closely with our civilian counterparts by sharing donors on military installations where there are no military blood collection centers and by sharing blood products in times of need to maximize availability of this national treasure.

To find out more about the ASBP or to schedule an appointment to donate, please visit www.militaryblood.dod.mil.

In response to your ads, articles and pleas everywhere for blood to alleviate the shortage, I signed up online to donate blood. I received a confirmed appointment online for 10 am this morning at RTC Great Lakes, IL and then drove 40 miles only to be turned away at the RTC gate. I was then sent to the other side of the base to the visitor center to get an RTC pass, and they refused to issue one even though I showed them my retiree ID card and the printout of my confirmed appointment. I was then sent packing, all the way back home. If you’re going to hold the blood drive at the RTC (the most restricted area on the base) I’d like to suggest that registered blood donors names be automatically placed on a special access list at the gate, or, move it to an easy access area with easy and open parking like maybe Lovell or the NEX lot. Submitted for consideration. Tim Aines CDR, USCG (ret.)
