What a way to wrap up the summer! 🌅🏆
Thursday evening, we gathered for our annual Beach Department Awards Banquet to celebrate an unforgettable season and honor the incredible crew who made it all happen.

Despite every twist and turn this season threw at us, our lifeguards, parking attendants, and clerks stepped up and shined.

🏃‍♀️💨Falmouth Road Race - Know Before You Go🏃‍♂️💨
Just 4 days until the 54th Annual Falmouth Road Race on Sunday, August 16! Thousands of runners will make the 7-mile journey from Woods Hole to Falmouth Heights in one of Cape Cod’s most iconic events.

🅿 Beach Parking Details:

Falmouth Heights Beach
❌ Closed for medical tent

Bristol Beach
🔹Open 4:15-8am
🔸Some spaces reserved for volunteers & employees
🔹Gate closes when lot fills

Surf Drive Beach & its Mill Road Extension
🔹Open 4:15-7am (gate closes if lot fills)
🔸Some spaces reserved for volunteers & medical tent
🔹No access during the race due to road closures
🔹Reopens after the final runner passes

All other beaches
🔹Open 8am-5pm

📢 BEACH DEPARTMENT TEMPORARY RELOCATION UPDATE 📢

Following the accident at Surf Drive on 8/10, the Beach Department has temporarily relocated operations to Town Hall. Please note the temporary locations for services below:

🎟️ Beach Sticker Sales
Location: Town Hall, Main Level (Small Conference Room)
Hours: Monday – Friday | 9:00 AM – 4:00 PM, weekend availability TBD

🏛️ Beach Administration Team
Location: Town Hall, Lower Level (Civil Defense Room)

We will share further updates regarding weekend sticker sales and the status of the Ellen T. Mitchell Bathhouse as soon as possible. Thank you for your patience and understanding as we adjust our operations 💙

The Beach Administration Office will be relocating temporarily from Surf Drive to Town Hall later this week.

🏊‍♀️🌊 Making Waves at the Swim Meet! 🌊🏊‍♂️

Last week, swimmers from each of our beach lessons programs came together at the Sandwich Pool to put their skills to the test in a fun and friendly meet. 💦

It was a great opportunity for our young swimmers to showcase all they’ve learned this summer, cheer each other on, and celebrate their progress. Huge congratulations to all of our swimmers for their hard work, confidence, and sportsmanship! 🎉👏

📢Shout-out to our amazing lifeguards! 📢

This summer, 25 of our Falmouth Lifeguards competed in three lifeguarding competitions across Cape Cod: the CCNS Lifeguard Challenge Series at Herring Cove, the Sandshark Relays at Nauset Beach, and the Baywatch Relays at Smugglers Beach. 🏊‍♂️💪
We are so proud of their hard work and commitment, both in competition and on duty, keeping our beaches safe all summer long. Great job, team! 👏👏👏

A growing inventory of accessible equipment is expanding the ways people with mobility challenges can experience Falmouth’s beaches.

The Beach Department has added new beach walkers, additional beach wheelchairs and accessible beach mats through a combination of Town Meeting funding and community grants.

The newest additions include two beach rolling walkers funded through the Falmouth Road Race Inc.’s annual grant program. The walkers, which are designed to travel across sand and enter the water, were part of a grant request submitted by the Beach Department that also funded a new rescue board for lifeguards.

Assistant Beach Superintendent Brooke McMillan said the department began exploring beach walkers after hearing from visitors who wanted an option between walking independently and using a wheelchair.

“It isn’t necessarily new technology. It’s just something I think that we’re noticing a need for,” McMillan said about the walkers.

The rolling-style beach walkers can be used on the beach and in the water, although McMillan said users need to move slowly when traveling directly on sand. The walkers are easier to maneuver on the department’s accessible beach mats.

The first beach walker was recently used at Surf Drive Beach by an older woman who, according to McMillan, was able to reach the water with the help of the new equipment.

“She wouldn’t have been able to [otherwise],” McMillan said.
