Back in June, North Falmouth Elementary School challenged the Falmouth Police and Fire Departments to take the ALS Ice Bucket Challenge in support of Katie’s Cure. We accepted… and now it’s time to pay up. 🧊

Join us on Saturday, August 22, from 12–2 PM as Falmouth Police and Fire team up for an epic ALS Ice Bucket Challenge to raise awareness and support for those affected by ALS and to honor Katie’s legacy through Katie's Cure ALS.

Want to make it even more fun? Anyone who donates to Katie’s Cure will have the chance to dunk police officers in an ice-cold dunk tank after the challenge. If you’ve been waiting for the perfect opportunity to soak the officer who wrote you a ticket, this might be it. 😉

The Ice Bucket Challenge is part of our Open House, so stick around for station tours, a K9 demonstration, equipment displays, free food, and more. We hope to see you there! 💙🚔🚒

At approximately 1220, units from Falmouth Fire/Rescue and Joint Base Cape Code were dispatched for a reported structure fire. Units arrived to find fire on the “Delta” (right) side of a single-level, single family home. The fire appears to have started from an exterior source, spread to the side, and entered the attic.

Crews aggressively extinguished fire in the attic space and exterior, preventing fire spread to the rest of the home. All hands continued working, removed insulation from the attic, and completed overhaul to ensure there was no hidden fire.

As with most fire events, the really hard work takes place after the fire is out; that work takes a long time and is physically demanding. On most events you cannot even see it happening but it is necessary to reduce the potential for a “rekindle” after units clear the scene.

Thanks to Joint Base for assisting, Falmouth PD for making the scene safe for us to work, and the other jurisdictions that provided station coverage.

This morning, Falmouth Fire and Police personnel managed a single-family house fire with assistance from Joint Base Cape Cod, Mashpee, and Sandwich. The other jurisdictions provided both direct support and station coverage. The fire was challenging and involved coordinated work between Fire and Police. Unfortunately, there was one fatality despite aggressive life-saving efforts.

Fatal Fire Under Investigation in Falmouth

Early Morning House Fire Claims One Life

FALMOUTH—An older adult is deceased after an early-morning fire in a Red Brook Road home, said Falmouth Fire Chief Jeffrey Lewis, Falmouth Police Chief Jeffrey Lourie, State Fire Marshal Jon Davine, and Cape & Islands District Attorney Robert J. Galibois.

The Falmouth Fire Department responded to 15 Red Brook Road shortly after 6:30 this morning following a neighbor’s 9-1-1 call. On arrival, they found heavy fire showing from the rear of the building and heavy smoke from the front door.

With the assistance of Falmouth Police, firefighters removed one person from the home and immediately attempted lifesaving efforts. That person, a man in his 70s, was declared deceased at the scene. The Office of the Chief Medical Examiner will determine the cause and manner of his death.

Firefighters were able to knock down the bulk of the fire quickly, but the single-family home will be a total loss.

The origin and cause of the fire are being investigated by the Falmouth Fire Department, Falmouth Police Department, State Police fire investigators assigned to the State Fire Marshal’s office, and State Police assigned to the Cape & Islands DA’s office.
