***Attention All Stafford County High School Seniors ***

Each year, the White Oak Volunteer Rescue Squad awards two (2) $500 scholarships as part of a program in memory of one of our members, Stephen Gayle. The awards are made to High School seniors who are interested in pursuing higher education in the Emergency Medical and Healthcare fields. The National Weather Service is forecasting low clouds and passing showers this morning. As the strong cold front approaches from the west, strong to severe thunderstorms are expected. The more potent cells could produce 70-80 mph wind gusts & even a few tornadoes. Monitor weather conditions and seek shelter immediately if a warning is issued.

Looks like we have the potential for some severe weather on Monday, 3-16. Please make sure that any loose items around the outside of your homes are secured. And please, don't take any unnecessary chances. Monitor local radio and TV for any warnings and updates. Be prepared and stay safe!

Due to the potential for severe weather in our area during dismissal, including the strong possibility of tornadoes, all schools and offices will be closed tomorrow, March 16, 2026. All after school activities are cancelled.

Students and staff will engage in asynchronous remote learning, with submission of assignments counting toward attendance. In the event of a power or internet outage, or difficulty with assignments, students and families should communicate with their assigned teacher(s).

Meals will be available, free of charge, from 10 am - 12 pm at Edward E Drew MS (501 Cambridge St, Fredericksburg, VA 22405) and Kate Waller Barrett ES (150 Duffey Dr, Stafford, VA 22556).

This decision was made out of an abundance of caution and with the safety of our students, staff, and families as the top priority.

We recognize that schedule changes can create challenges for families, and we appreciate your understanding as we prioritize safety during severe weather conditions. The school division will continue to monitor conditions and will share any additional updates as needed. Please stay safe and take precautions if severe weather approaches your area.

The National Weather Service (NWS) has issued a Cold Weather Advisory for Stafford County in effect from 8PM Friday, January 30, 2026 - 11AM Saturday, January 31, 2026. Wind chills as low as -5 are expected. Winds are also expected to increase Saturday into Sunday causing low daytime wind chills.

Please practice cold weather safety to limit or avoid time outdoors during the advisory. If you are required to be outside:
-Wear multiple layers
-Cover all exposed skin
-Take frequent breaks to warm up
-Stay hydrated

Stafford Schools will offer meals free of charge for school-aged students tomorrow, January 28 at the following locations:

Edward E. Drew Middle School (501 Cambridge St, Fredericksburg, VA 22405)

Kate Waller Barrett Elementary School (150 Duffy Dr, Stafford, VA 22554)

Meals may be picked up between 11:00 a.m. and 1:00 p.m.

If you plan to travel to one of these sites, please take extra care. Road conditions vary, and we encourage families to allow additional time, use caution, and only travel if it is safe to do so. Your safety is important to us, and we appreciate everyone making the decision that is best for your family.
