Save the date! Join Falmouth Fire-Rescue & Falmouth Police Department as we raise money for Katie's Cure ALS. Free community event, with lots of activities!

Back in June, North Falmouth Elementary School challenged the Falmouth Police and Fire Departments to take the ALS Ice Bucket Challenge in support of Katie’s Cure. We accepted… and now it’s time to pay up. 🧊

Join us on Saturday, August 22, from 12–2 PM as Falmouth Police and Fire team up for an epic ALS Ice Bucket Challenge to raise awareness and support for those affected by ALS and to honor Katie’s legacy through Katie's Cure ALS.

Want to make it even more fun? Anyone who donates to Katie’s Cure will have the chance to dunk police officers in an ice-cold dunk tank after the challenge. If you’ve been waiting for the perfect opportunity to soak the officer who wrote you a ticket, this might be it. 😉

The Ice Bucket Challenge is part of our Open House, so stick around for station tours, a K9 demonstration, equipment displays, free food, and more. We hope to see you there! 💙🚔🚒

Engine 5, East Falmouth station with their 3rd first due structure fire in the past 36 hours , aggressive initial attack to stop the spread. Great work by all members throughout the incident battling the heat. Thank you to seacoast shores neighbors providing gatorades & water during rehab and providing members with food back at the station.

Our East Falmouth Station had an incredibly demanding final 12 hours of shift, responding to two first-due structure fires while also handling multiple medical emergencies in between. L1397 is proud of the dedication, professionalism, and teamwork all our members demonstrated. A special thank you to the Falmouth Police Department for their assistance with life-saving efforts during the incident this morning. Also thank you to Officer Massi for taking the time to provide coffee to crew members during the extended incident.

It is with deep sadness that Falmouth Firefighters Local 1397 shares the passing of Katie DeGregorio Silvestri, beloved sister of our brother, Firefighter Domenic DeGregorio.

On behalf of the officers and members of Local 1397, we extend our heartfelt condolences to Domenic and the entire DeGregorio family during this incredibly difficult time. While no words can ease the pain of such a tremendous loss, we hope they find comfort in the love and support of their family, friends, and community.

Katie’s kindness, strength, and unwavering devotion to those she loved left a lasting impact on everyone fortunate enough to know her. Her legacy will continue to live on through the countless lives she touched.

We ask our members and the community to keep Domenic, his family, and all who loved Katie in your thoughts and prayers in the days and weeks ahead.

Services to honor Katie’s life will be held in Falmouth this week and the info can be found at https://www.katiescureals.com/

We encourage those who are able to join in honoring her memory and supporting the DeGregorio-Silvestri family.

In times like these, we are reminded that the fire service is more than a profession—we are a family. Local 1397 stands beside Domenic and the DeGregorio family, today and always.

Fraternally,

Falmouth Firefighters Local 1397

Enjoy your well earned retirement!

Cousins and born-and-raised Falmouth residents Stephen DeMatos and Daniel L. Lopes Jr. will both be retiring from the Falmouth Fire Department on June 6 after 31 years of service. The cousins have public service in their DNA. Their pride in serving their community runs three generations deep.

Their fathers, Daniel L. Lopes Sr. and Custodio DeMatos, were also employees of the town. Lopes Sr. was a Falmouth firefighter from 1966-1998 and Custodio DeMatos worked at Morse Pond School from 1968 to 2003 as a custodian. Their grandfather, Adelino M. DeMatos, worked at the Lawrence School from 1966 to 1986.

Over the course of their lives in Falmouth, Lopes and DeMatos said they have seen the town evolve. During an interview with the Enterprise, the pair recalled walking to Teaticket Elementary School together as kids, playing on the firetrucks while visiting Lopes Sr. at work at the Woods Hole Fire Station and listening to WCIB Cool 102 on the radio while cruising down Surf Drive with the windows of their car down.

After retiring from the Fire Department, Lopes and DeMatos hope to plan a family trip together to Portugal. Although they said they will miss the department, they said they will not miss the near-constant alerts and alarms on their phones reporting department calls. After their official retirements on June 6, DeMatos will continue operating his landscaping company and Lopes will continue working in the Falmouth Hospital Emergency Room as an ER technician.

Congratulations and Best Wishes to Firefighter Michael Mueller on his Well-Deserved Retirement! 🎉

Effective March 15th, 2026, Firefighter Michael Mueller officially retired from the Falmouth Fire Rescue Department after nearly two decades of dedicated service.

FF Mueller began his career with the FFRD in June 2005 as a civilian dispatcher before accepting a position as a Firefighter/Paramedic in April 2007. Over the years, he distinguished himself not only through his commitment to the community but also through his active involvement in the union, where he held various leadership roles — including serving as Union President.

Michael, your years of service, dedication, and leadership have made a lasting impact on this department and the community we proudly serve. We are grateful for everything you have given to the FFRD and the residents of Falmouth.

Wishing you all the best in this exciting new chapter — you've earned it! 👏🚒
