No, this is not a building in some war torn area of the world. It is the administration building on our wastewater treatment plant right here in Falmouth. How was it allowed to fall into such disrepair? Thankfully our new Town Manager, Mike Renshaw, has instituted a new program which will track maintenance and condition of all town owned buildings. This new software package will help insure that conditions like this won't occur in the future but how did conditions like this, or those at police headquarters be allowed to exist in the past? This is the responsibility of town government,

Here I am with some members of the Falmouth Gun Buyback and officers of the Falmouth Police Department after we collected approximately 100 fi****ms from homes in and around Falmouth. All fi****ms were destroyed under FPD supervision. Those who donated weapons received gift cards for local food stores, with additional gift cards being donated to the Service Center.

Water...one of the most, if the not the most , important resources on our island is under constant attack. Matt Landed tells me that the Long Pond pumping station is operating at maximum capacity and depending on summer usage may mandate water restrictions.

At our wastewater treatment facility we are processing approximately 600,000 gallons per day. Our SBR's are woking at full capacity.

We need to take a serious look at not only consumer consumption but also upgrades to the entire water system for the town. This includes no only machinery and building upgrades bu also personnel. Now is the time to act.

In my meetings with department heads I had a long and productive sessions with Matt Landed, Superintendent of our Water Department. Matt brought to my attention that in the very near future we are going to have to add 8-12 positions to the department. An issue we need to pay close attention to if we are to meet the ever growing issue of protecting the town's water supply.

One way to help prevent pesticides and fertilizer from entering our water supply is through the use of indigenous, drought resistant plants. They are beautiful, require little to no maintenance and do not contribute to runoff contamination. Here's a link to get you started:

Welcome The purpose of this site is to help native plant enthusiasts select the right plant for the right place.
