Attached Garage Fire Quickly Controlled, Saving Single Family Residence
On Wednesday, April 15th, at 7:21 AM, Falmouth Fire Rescue responded to a garage fire at 259 Club Valley Drive. The first arriving engine from Hatchville Station encountered heavy fire conditions inside the garage, extending to the exterior of the structure and starting to spread into the single-family cape-style residence. All occupants had evacuated the home.
Initial actions of the first responding crew quickly brought the garage fire under control. With additional arriving units, attention was then focused on suppression efforts for the dwelling. A guinea pig was rescued during a search of the second floor. At 8:00 AM, the fire was controlled. Following an extensive overhaul of the garage and the above attic area, including a wooden chimney, fire suppression efforts were complete at 8:53 AM.
The fire remains under investigation with the assistance of the State Fire Marshall’s Office, with the cause currently undetermined. Due to smoke damage, the house is uninhabitable. There were no injuries to occupants or firefighters. The last units cleared the scene at 10:05 AM.
A special thank you to our partners:
• Local Agencies: Falmouth Inspectional Services and Emergency Communications.
• Technical & Fire Support: State Fire Marshall Fire Investigation Unit; Joint Base Cape Cod, Bourne, COMM, and Sandwich Fire Departments.

Dog Rescued From 12 Foot Sinkhole in Backyard

On Tuesday, March 24, at 2:43 PM, Falmouth Fire Rescue responded to a unique emergency at 387 Jones Road: an 11-year-old yellow lab named Tessa had fallen into a 12-foot-deep sinkhole.

The two-foot-wide shaft opened into a large, undermined area caused by hidden water drainage. Due to the high risk of collapse and the dangers of the confined space, the Barnstable County Technical Rescue Team was called in to assist.

Crews stabilized the surface and determined that a traditional entry was too dangerous for firefighters. Instead, they opted for a surface rescue. After more than two hours of tactical adjustments—and a little help from some pepperoni—Tessa was successfully pulled to safety at 5:01 PM. She was uninjured and happily celebrated her rescue by finishing the remaining treats. We are grateful that her owner called 911 immediately rather than attempting a dangerous solo rescue.
A special thank you to our partners:

• Local Agencies: Falmouth Police, Animal Control, DPW, Board of Health, and Emergency Communications.

• Technical & Fire Support: Barnstable County Technical Rescue Team, from Multiple Fire Departments throughout Cape Cod

• Private Partners: Mid Cape Home Center, Dalpe Excavation, and Dig Safe.

At 710 PM (1910) hours on March 17, 2026, the Falmouth Fire Rescue Department responded to a report of a possible structure fire at 68 Deepwood Drive. The First-arriving units found a single-family residential structure with heavy fire on arrival, and immediately began fire attack, with additional units arriving to assist. A working fire assignment was ordered, with additional units from Falmouth Fire and JBCC Fire responding to the scene.
Initial units performed a transitional attack to control the fire that had vented to the exterior. The crew entered the building, continued the fire attack, and completed a primary search for victims. Fire was noted to have extended into the attic, and vertical ventilation was ordered. During this period, the roof's integrity was questionable. Roof teams were ordered off the roof, and all units were ordered to evacuate the building.
Crews continued defensive fire operations until it was deemed safe to re-enter the structure for overhaul operations. The fire was deemed under control at approximately 815pm
(2015) hours. No injuries were reported, and the sole occupant was taken to a neighbor's home.
The Falmouth Fire Rescue Department would like to thank its mutual aid partners.
Joint Base Cape Cod (JBCC) Fire Department for on-scene assistance
Cotuit Fire, Bourne Fire, COMM Fire, and Hyannis Fire for providing town-wide fire
and EMS Coverage.
Falmouth Police Department for securing the scene
Falmouth Emergency Communications Center
The cause of the fire remains under investigation by the Massachusetts State Police and the State Fire Marshal’s Office.
Any questions regarding the investigation should be
directed to the State Fire Marshals' o􀆯ice.
