Extended Closure Planned along KY 80 in Western Graves County starting June 1

UPDATE: KY 80 to close starting promptly at 6 a.m., Wednesday

PADUCAH, Ky. (May 21, 2022) – A contractor for the Kentucky Transportation Cabinet (KYTC) plans to close a section of KY 80 in western Graves County starting Wednesday, June 1, 2022.

KY 80 will be closed at mile point 2.85 to allow a culvert that carries a branch of the West Fork of Mayfield Creek to be replaced. This closure site is immediately east of the Cash Road intersection, about 1.5 miles east of the Fancy Farm community.

The contractor will install message boards and signage to alert the public to this extended closure. KY 80 is expected to remain closed for approximately 3 weeks at this site.

The contractor and KYTC District 1 will attempt to provide timely updates as the work progresses.

This extended closure of KY 80 is part of a Highway Safety Improvement Project (HSIP) between Mayfield and Fancy Farm. The overall safety project runs along 6 miles of KY 80 between the Higgins Road intersection at mile point 2.38 and the intersection with Mike Lane at mile point 8.519.

Work that started in December included reinforcement of 4 concrete culverts and other work along the right of way. Generally, the contractor has been restricting traffic to one lane from time to time on short segments of roadway to facilitate delivery of concrete and other materials at specific work locations.

Approximately 3,300 vehicles travel this section of KY 80 in an average day.

Harper Contracting is the prime contractor on this $545,855 Highway Safety Improvement Project. The target completion date for all work on this safety project is October 1, 2022.

UPDATE: Mayfield-Graves County Tornado/Storm Warning Siren Test at Noon Today

Repairs to siren activation system completed overnight

MAYFIELD, Ky. (Dec. 31, 2021) – The Graves County Office of Emergency Management plans a tornado/storm warning siren test at noon today, December 31, 2021.

Two of the county's 11 storm warning sirens were damaged by the EF-4 tornado that hit the region on Dec. 10. A test of the system on Thursday found the antenna that activates the sirens required additional repairs. Those repairs were completed overnight to allow the sirens to be tested today.

The siren test will help officials determine which sirens are fully operational and which sirens may require additional repairs or replacement.

The test will take about 10 minutes to complete starting at noon, today.

The Graves County Office of Emergency Management encourages residents to have multiple paths for severe weather warnings. You can sign up for emergency weather alerts via phone through the county's Code Red system at:
