We are pleased to announce that Fanwood's Tai Cooper will be on the November ballot as a Democratic candidate for Union County Clerk. Tai is currently Chief Community Development Officer for the NJ Economic Development Authority. She is a veteran of statewide and local politics with experience as policy advisor to Governor Phil Murphy and Newark Mayor Ras Baraka. The Fanwood Democratic Committee supports Tai for this position and her promise to continue the legacy of professionalism, access to elections, and many other services championed by the late Joanne Rajoppi.

I am so very proud to endorse Fanwood resident Tai Cooper for the position of Union County Clerk. I have known Tai for over 10 years and have worked with her on many important public policy initiatives. Tai brings the energy and vast public-service experience that make her uniquely qualified to serve Union County residents in this critical role. The late Joanne Rajoppi set a high bar for public service in her 30-plus years as County Clerk, and Tai is up to the task. The Clerk's position is multidimensional and matches Tai's ability to multitask

Tai's work with the New Jersey Economic Development Authority and her experience in local and statewide government align perfectly with the important mission of ensuring our elections are free and fair. With the midterm election close at hand, Tai's commitment to democracy and fair elections is more relevant than ever. Her experience and education make her the right choice for Union County Clerk, and I am proud to support her at the upcoming county convention.

The Fanwood Borough Council this week took steps to make the town safer by adopting ordinances to reduce speed limits, including along the busy South Avenue and Martine Avenue downtown corridors. The speed limit along those downtown stretches is reduced to 25 MPH. Similar reductions were adopted along other busy streets, along with new parking restrictions near our schools, to wit:

*No parking on Hunter Avenue near School One on school days from 8–9 a.m. and 2-3:30 p.m.
*Left turns will be prohibited from Trenton Ave. onto Martine Ave. from 7:30–9 a.m. (after morning dropoffs at McGinn School).
*No right turns will be permitted from 7–9 a.m. from Terrill Road onto Paterson Road or Stewart Place on weekdays only.

Speed limits will be reduced on the following streets:
*La Grande Ave. to 25 mph;
*Laurel Place 25 mph (down from 30 mph);
*Martine Ave. from King St. to Coriell Ave.: 35 mph (down from 40 mph);
*Marine Ave. from North Ave. to Midway Ave.: 30 pmh (reduced from 35 mph)d

Council candidates Anthony Carter and Mike Lowenthal spent some time this week going door to door, meeting residents and finding out what's on their minds. Anthony and Mike have proven records of leadership for Fanwood, Anthony as a three-term councilman and Mike as a recreation commissioner. Fanwood councilmembers serve for $1 a year with no other benefits. They are there because they want to be there for us.

Congratulations to our Police, Fire and EMS responders for a great National Night Out event. A fantastic turnout by Fanwood families and lovely weather made for a wonderful evening of community engagement by our first responders. Council candidates Anthony Carter and Mike Lowenthal enjoyed the food and fun and got to meet many of our citizens.
