🌟We are pleased to announce the winners of the Fargo Public Library's 2026 kids-only writing and art contest. 🎨🖍🖊🖌✏️📷
The contest was open to kids in Kindergarten through 6th grade, and 47 entries in writing, art, and photography were recently submitted by area youngsters. Contest categories included short stories, poetry, comics, nonfiction essays, drawing and photography. The first place, second place and honorable mention entries in each category are:
Short Story Winners:
• 1st Place: Lucy Ford, “The Life of Danny Klango”
• 2nd Place: Ava Hamilton, “I Found My Sister Inside a Snowglobe”

• Get started by pre-registering at fargolibrary.beanstack.org (OR log in and update your account if you already have one). Printed reading logs will be available starting June 8!
• Be sure to make plans to joins us for the Kickoff Party on Monday, JUNE 8 (a week from today), featuring big, dinosaur-sized digging machines and an epic foam party at the Main Library!

Reminder: Join us TOMORROW (5/28) at the Dr. James Carlson Library at 10AM for an inclusive, sensory-friendly storytime presented by staff from Anne Carlson Early Intervention.
• Designed specifically for young children who benefit from a gentle, supportive environment, the storytime will offer stories, songs, and movement activities using visuals, repetition, and hands-on sensory elements.
• Families can expect a calm, flexible space where children are free to move, make noise, and participate in the ways that feel comfortable for them.
• Sensory storytime is appropriate for ages 0 to 5 (siblings are welcome).

Photographer Dorothea Lange was born (May 26) in 1895. The Library of Congress shared some of Dorothea Lange's photos to mark her birthday. Many of Lange’s photographs of migrant farmers, sharecroppers, and Dust Bowl farmers taken during the 1930s are held today at the Library of Congress.
