Happy Friday! 🌽

While yellow may be the color we most commonly associate with corn, it’s definitely not the only one! Corn can come in many different colors, including red, blue, purple, white, and even multicolored varieties.

The color can vary depending on the variety and genetics of the seed.

Next time you’re out in the fields during harvest season, take a closer look!

This summer, we had the opportunity to celebrate a pretty special milestone for our Finance & Research Director, Molly Fern — 20 years of service to North Dakota agriculture! 🌽💚

Molly has spent two decades serving North Dakota farmers as a state employee working for commodity organizations, and we are so fortunate to have her as part of the ND Corn team.

In her time with ND Corn, Molly has become crucial to the work of the Council. From managing our finances and research investments to supporting our board and keeping countless details moving behind the scenes, her knowledge, experience, and dedication help make so much of what we do possible.

These photos capture just a few moments from Molly’s time working on behalf of North Dakota corn farmers — and we’re grateful for all the work that happens both in front of and behind the camera (or as our corn mascot, Bob the Cob!)

ND Corn was proud to be the presenting sponsor of College Day at the Red River Market on Saturday, and Fargo certainly kept us busy!

Between scoops of cornbread ice cream, we had hundreds of conversations about what North Dakota corn farmers are growing for North Dakotans, from the food on our tables to homegrown ethanol at the pump.

Kids even got in on the action, “fueling up” in their own little neighborhood while we talked with parents about ethanol blends like Unleaded 88 and the choices available to them at the pump. ⛽🌽

More than 650 ice cream servings (The Silver Lining Creamery - Fargo) were gone before noon, but the conversations kept going all afternoon.

Thank you to the Red River Market, our corn farmer leaders who joined us, and everyone who stopped by to learn a little more about what corn can do! We couldn’t have asked for a better day to celebrate corn and community!

Last Friday of the month means our last “F” of corn — FUEL! ⛽

Ethanol plays an important role in fuel while also supporting our agriculture community. Many types of gasoline contain ethanol, including E10, E15 (Unleaded 88), and E85, each with different ethanol blends.

So, next time you’re at the gas station, take a look at what you’re putting in your tank and what it costs! Higher-ethanol blends can offer savings at the pump when your vehicle is approved for them.

Next Up – FIBER!

We’ve already talked about how versatile corn can be when it comes to food, but what about the materials we use every day?

Corn can be processed into fibers and other materials that play a role in many products you might not expect. This can include things like clothing, paint, plastics, carpet, and more!

Corn plays an important role in so many things we don’t always see, helping keep products being made and our stores stocked.
