Somali Community Development of North Dakota

Somali Community Development of North Dakota The Somali community is one of the major ethnic communities in the Fargo-Moorhead area.

Somali Community Development of North Dakota provides support and empowerment to immigrant communities by providing programs and services in employment and economic development, community outreach, youth and women empowerment, education, and advocacy. Most of the Somali refugees started to arrive here in the mid-1990s and since then, the number of Somali refugees has been increasing rapidly. Also,

our community has seen a huge increase in secondary refugees who have moved here for decent employment prospects, top-notch schooling, integrated community support, and better public-safety. The mission of the Somali Community Development of North Dakota (SCDND) is to bring refugees, new-comers, and the local community together, while promoting self-sufficiency among refugee families through employment, community orientation, continued education, cultural and social support, and economic empowerment. SCDND encourages successful integration of new arrivals in the community via meaningful programming such as, tutoring, mentoring, volunteering, employment placement, conflict resolution, and advocacy.
