Beginning Wednesday, May 20, eastbound 1st Avenue North will be closed between 8th Street North and Roberts Street North. Crews are continuing spotting and locating all underground utilities in this stretch. This closure is expected to be in place for up to one week.

This is the next phase of a project to aid City project designers for a future 1st Avenue North Street Reconstruction Project. Crews will be digging to locate underground utilities and then patching the roadway. Over the next couple of months, they will be working in phases from University Drive east to 3rd Street North.

Beginning Monday, May 18, the intersection of 15th Street South and 32nd Avenue South is set to close, as construction continues in Phase 2 of Segment 3 for the ongoing 32nd Avenue South reconstruction project. The short-term closure will last approximately one week.

This closure allows crews to safely complete essential underground utility work at the intersection of 32nd Avenue South and 15th Street South. The closure is part of the City of Fargo’s multi-year effort to modernize infrastructure, enhance safety, and improve overall traffic flow through this key corridor.

15th Street Intersection Closure Impact:
The intersection of 15th Street and 32nd Avenue South will be closed to all traffic for approximately one week. All local businesses and properties will remain accessible.

After 15th Street is reopened, the intersection of University Drive and 32nd Avenue South will be under a similar short-term closure. Longer duration closures of the two intersections will occur later in Phase 2.

Current traffic impacts:
• 32nd Avenue South between University Drive South east to the Red River remains closed as part of Phase 1.
• 32nd Avenue South between 15th Street South and University Drive South is closed as part of Phase 2.
• The intersection of 15th Street South at 32nd Avenue South will be closed, effective May 18th. Local business and property access will be maintained.
• The following detours will be in effect:
o Eastbound traffic detoured via 35th Avenue South.
o Westbound traffic detoured via 27th Avenue South.

All local businesses will remain accessible throughout construction. Pedestrian access will be maintained on at least one side of the street at all times.

More about the project:
Segment 3 is the last segment of the 32nd Avenue South reconstruction project, which began in April 2023. This important project enhances crucial underground infrastructure and transportation efficiency for everyone.

The City of Fargo would like to thank the community for their patience and cooperation during this reconstruction project. We urge drivers to plan their routes accordingly, exercise caution, and adhere to safety guidelines while traveling through construction zones.

Beginning Monday, May 18, eastbound Main Avenue will be shifted into the center turn lane between Broadway and 4th Street North. This closure is for a crane that will be working on a building and will be in place for one week.

Beginning Monday, May 18, N.P. Avenue will be closed between 4th Street North and 2nd Street North. This is the start of the N.P. Avenue roadway reconstruction project, which will fully reconstruct the underground utilities and roadway from 4th Street North through the intersection of 2nd Street North. The entire project is expected to be substantially complete this fall.

Beginning Tuesday, May 12, 37th Avenue South will be closed between Norman Court and 45th Street South.

The closure is for private underground utility work and is expected to be in place for up to one week.

Beginning Tuesday evening, May 12, Broadway will be closed overnight between 32nd Avenue North and 35th Avenue North. The work is for private underground utility work. The road is expected to reopen by 7 a.m. on Wednesday, May 13.

Effective Monday, May 11, 2026, at 12:01 a.m., the City of Fargo spring load restrictions currently imposed on City roads will be lifted and all roads will return to their regular weight restrictions.

The Designated Truck Route system will return to weight limitations as follows:

• Single axle: 20,000 lbs.
• Tandem axle: 34,000 lbs. - not to exceed 17,000 lbs. per axle
• 3 or more axles: 48,000 lbs. - not to exceed 16,000 lbs. per axle
• Gross vehicle weight: 105,500 lbs.

All non-truck route streets, including the residential system, will return to Class A restrictions as follows:

• Single axle: 18,000 lbs.
• Tandem axle: 32,000 lbs. - not to exceed 16,000 lbs. per axle
• 3 or more axles: 42,000 lbs. - not to exceed 14,000 lbs. per axle
• Gross vehicle weight: 80,000 lbs.

Beginning Tuesday, May 5, eastbound 1st Avenue North will be closed between University Drive North and 10th Street North. Crews will be spotting and locating all underground utilities in this stretch. This closure is expected to be in place for up to one week.

Beginning Wednesday, April 29, 13 ½ Street South will be closed to traffic between 18th Avenue South and 20th Avenue South. The closure is for storm sewer repairs. The roadway is expected to reopen by the end of the day Monday, May 4.

Beginning Wednesday, March 18, the eastbound lane on 7th Avenue North will be closed between 21st Street North and 17th Street North. Eastbound traffic will be shifted into the center turn lane.

Crews will be working on overhead utility lines on the south side of 7th Avenue North. Traffic control will be removed each weekend. This phase of work is expected to be in place until Friday, March 27.

Due to current temperatures, Fargo Public Works crews will begin plowing residential streets and avenues starting at 7:30 am on Tuesday, December 16, and continuing through the end of the week, weather permitting. The intent of plowing efforts is to remove ice and snow from previous weather events. Alley cleanup will be taking place simultaneously, where possible.

Fargo Public Works requests the public’s assistance in affording equipment and crew members sufficient space to remove the snow and ice. For safety purposes, please stay back a safe distance and practice caution around all equipment.
