Last month we celebrated County Government Month by hosting our annual Youth Government Day in which students from area high schools visit out offices to learn about how county government works.

Students from Faribault High School, Arcadia Charter School, Northfield Public Schools and Tri-City United Public Schools attended the sessions. The day began in a Board of Commissioners meeting where they learned about how business is done in the county. They then heard from this year's presenters, which included staff from the Recorder's Office, Rice County Environmental Services, Rice County Attorney's Office, Highway Department and Rice County Sheriff's Office to learn about their jobs and how they serve the county. They also had an opportunity to watch a portion of a court session (even though that's a state function) and participate in a question and answer session with District Court Judge Karie. M. Anderson.

Congratulations to Eric Lundin on his retirement.

Lundin, who has served as a mental health professional in Rice County for 37 years, has provided therapy to thousands of residents, guiding them to a happier, healthier, more productive way of life, his supervisor James Marthaler said so eloquently Tuesday morning.

Just as important is how Lundin approaches life: as a positive presence who brings a smile and a positive reframe for us all.

Thank you, Eric. We will miss you.
