📈WHAT THE STUDIES TELL US 📈

📊Rigorous, independent research proves that numbers on the apparatus directly translate to lives saved:

The NIST Landmark Study: Controlled live-burn research by the National Institute of Standards and Technology demonstrated that larger crews complete critical fireground tasks up to 30% faster than understaffed teams.

The FSRI Health & Safety Study: Research by the Fire Safety Research Institute confirms that the 4-person baseline is a floor, not a ceiling. Moving to a 5-person model dramatically reduces extreme physical exhaustion, limits rapid fire growth, and minimizes toxic gas exposures.

Real-World Performance Outcomes: Field simulations evaluating engine crew sizes showed that adding personnel yields an 11% faster time to put water on the fire, a 27% faster victim removal time, and a staggering 74% improvement in establishing a reliable water supply.

At 3:46 p.m. on Sunday, May 3, 2026, the Faribault Fire Department, Faribault Police Department, and North Memorial Health Ambulance Service were dispatched to a report of a house on fire at 916 Sixth St. NW in Faribault.

The caller stated that the fire is by the front door and they weren’t sure if anyone was in the house.

Prior to responders’ arrival, dispatchers received information that everyone was outside of the home.

Responders were faced with a large amount of fire near the front door. Much of the fire was on the exterior of the home, but the fire did make its way into the attic area through the soffits.

Firefighters made an aggressive offensive attack by entering the home and by gaining access to the attic area from the gable end of the home above the garage roof.

Smoke was cleared using fans and an extensive overhaul operation took place. Hotspots were extinguished and firefighting foam was used to soak down the charred area of the structure.

There were no injuries to the homeowners, firefighters or pets.
Firefighters cleared the scene at 5:36 p.m.

An interview of the homeowner verified the burn patterns witnessed by firefighters that place the seat of the fire near the front door. The cause of the fire was determined to be smoking materials.

“All people in the home escaped unharmed and that is the most important thing,” said Fire Chief Dustin Dienst.

At 12:00 a.m. on Wed, Feb. 18, 2026, the Faribault Fire Department, Faribault Police Department, and North Memorial Ambulance Service responded to a report of a structure fire at 2076 Baker Trail in Faribault, MN. The caller stated that the house is on fire and people are trapped inside.

Upon responders’ arrival, the occupants of the upstairs apartment had crawled out a window onto the roof of the garage. The main-level occupant backed his truck over to the garage so that the upstairs occupants could jump down onto the bed cover of the truck. Knowing that all occupants were safe, firefighters cooled the neighboring home with water and then began attacking the fire from the exterior.

The fire was burning on the northwest exterior corner of the home and had spread to the attic. Handlines and the aerial truck were used to extinguish the fire that had fully engulfed the attic of the home. Firefighters were able to place tarps over some valuables on the main level, but access to the upper level was limited by the amount of fire damage to the stairs and water damage to the second level floor. Firefighters cleared the scene at 3:20 a.m.

The occupants of the home were questioned and the upstairs occupant said that he had discarded a cigarette outside an hour prior to the fire. Evidence of fire origin indicated that the fire started in the same area that the occupant indicated that he had discarded the cigarette. The State Fire Marshal’s Office was contacted, and documented the fire, but no further investigation was deemed necessary, and at this point the fire is considered accidental, unintentional.

“The timing of this fire created the potential to be much more of a tragedy that it is,” said Fire Chief Dustin Dienst. “Thankfully the occupants were still awake and were able to utilize their second exit to escape the burning building.”
