🔥 Utah’s Closed Fire Season Begins June 1

Utah’s Closed Fire Season runs June 1 through October 31. As wildfire risk increases, residents are reminded to use Fire Sense before lighting any outdoor fire.

Before you burn:

âś… Check if burning is allowed where you live
âś… Obtain the proper permit when required
âś… Notify your local 911 dispatch non-emergency line before starting
âś… Check wind and weather conditions
âś… Keep water and tools nearby
âś… Maintain a safe buffer from dry grass, fences, trees, and structures
âś… Never leave a fire unattended
âś… Make sure the fire is completely out cold before leaving

Burning rules may be different inside city limits, unincorporated county areas, and agricultural areas. Trash, oil, tires, and prohibited materials should never be burned.

Residents are legally responsible if their fire escapes control. A few minutes of preparation can prevent a dangerous wildfire.

Fire sense is common sense. The trick is just using it. You already know heat or sparks plus dry grass equals a whole lot of trouble, so the next time you're camping or shooting or otherwise enjoying the great outdoors in this great state of ours, use your brain before things get too hot to handle.

Memorial Day is more than just the unofficial start of summer. It is a federal holiday in the United States for mourning the U.S. military personnel who died while serving in the United States Armed Forces. The first national observance of what would become Memorial Day occurred on May 30, 1868. It is a day of tremendous gratitude, and we honor the courage and sacrifice of American soldiers.

“Those who have long enjoyed such privileges as we enjoy forget in time that men have died to win them.” Franklin D. Roosevelt.

*Did you know: Since World War I (1914-1918), the red poppy, also known as the “Remembrance Poppy”, has been symbolic of lives lost in war. They are hardy and thrive in harsh, hostile environments (including battlefields). *

Mother’s Day is right around the corner and whether you’re a biological mother, adoptive mother, mother-in-law, foster mother, Godmother, a mothering aunt or a dog-mom, we each have a connection to Mother’s Day.

Here are a few, fun Mother’s Day facts:

• More calls are made on Mother’s Day than any other day of the year.
• Mother’s Day is the third highest selling holiday for flowers and plants.
• Mother’s Day is the busiest day of the year for restaurants.

Mother's Day is an annual holiday celebrated in the United States and Canada on the second Sunday in May, since 1914. The original intent for Mother's Day was to recognize mothers, motherhood and maternal bonds in general, as well as their positive contributions to their families and society. The Mother’s Day celebration was established by Anna Jarvis on May 10, 1908, with the first Mother's Day celebrated through a worship service at St. Andrew's Methodist Church in Grafton, West Virginia.

In the United States, Mother's Day is celebrated similarly to Father's Day, Siblings Day and Grandparents Day. Although Mothers and Father’s Day are more traditional and more widely recognized.

Traditions on Mother's Day include church-going, the distribution of carnations, and family dinners. Mother's Day is the third largest holiday in the United States for sending cards. According to the greeting card industry, it is estimated that more than 50 percent of American households send greeting cards on this holiday. (*Red carnations mean your mother is still living/White, she has passed on).

Regardless of how you celebrate, please remember the overarching sentiment for Mother’s Day is to celebrate all the mothers in your life. Here’s to you, mom!

May is Mental Health Awareness Month, and this month you’ll see our firefighters wearing these t-shirts instead of our usual uniforms.

These shirts represent something important — breaking the stigma around mental health.

As first responders, we see people on some of their hardest days. But what’s talked about less is the toll it can take on those who respond. Mental health matters for everyone—our patients, our community, and our crews.

It’s okay to not be okay

It’s okay to ask for help

We encourage you all to help

"Break The Stigma" around mental health.

This May, the nation will solemnly come together to honor fallen fire service heroes during the National Fallen Firefighters Memorial Weekend—the official national tribute recognizing firefighters who made the ultimate sacrifice in the line of duty during the previous year. In 2025, 97 firefighters lost their lives in the line of duty. 80% of these line of duty deaths are due to occupational cancers. The remaining lost their lives due to cardiac and medical illness and job-related trauma.

As part of this meaningful observance, Farmington Fire will partner with the National Fallen Firefighters Foundation (NFFF) to Light the Night for Fallen Firefighters. On May 2 – May 3, Farmington Fire will be illuminating Fire Station 71 in red as a symbol of remembrance.
