The City of Farmington would like to remind citizens that anyone in need of a warming shelter may visit any City of Farmington building that is available to the public during normal business hours.

“The National Weather Service says we could potentially have temperatures below freezing beginning Friday, January 12th through at least Tuesday, January 16th,” said Farmington Emergency Management Director Joshua McAtee.

City offices will be closed on Monday, January 15th in observance of Marting Luther King Jr. Day, but the 24-hour locations will still be open all day.

“We are working closely with our partners at East Missouri Action Agency to help ensure shelter is available for the homeless at their facility behind the old Mineral Area Hospital at Weber and Wallace Roads. They will be opening the Uplift Shelter overnight starting this Friday from 5pm-7am through the end of February. They also have daytime assistance for people to shower and do laundry at the Farmington Oaks location,” McAtee said.

The ambulance district will also be using any of their facilities in the county as a warming shelter. They have stations in Farmington, Park Hills, Bonne Terre, and Bismarck.

If you are aware of someone who is homeless inside the city limits of Farmington and in need of shelter, please notify the Farmington Police Department at 573-431-3131.

The Farmington Fire Department is seeking the public’s assistance in locating a vehicle that may have been damaged by a fire apparatus on Friday December 1st during the Farmington Christmas Parade. While responding to a commercial structure fire, a Farmington Fire Department Engine made minor contact with the left rear area of a silver or gray in color Jeep Wrangler that was parked facing west on West College Street, just west of the intersection of A Street. The fire engine continued to the emergency scene and the Farmington Police Department was made aware of the incident immediately. Unfortunately, when an officer arrived at the scene, the Jeep had already left. As of today, the vehicle owner has not been in contact with the Farmington Police Department to report damage to their vehicle.

The evidence on the fire engine indicates that it is possible that the only contact was with the left rear tire of the Jeep; however, Fire Department and City Administration would like to identify the vehicle and owner to ensure that the accident report can be completed and that the vehicle owner is compensated for any damage that may be present. Please share this information so that the vehicle owner can be located. If you are the owner of the Jeep in question, please contact Fire Chief Kyle Carter at 573-756-2324.
