NRRA HIGHLIGHTS

Of the over 20 solid waste-related bills proposed in New Hampshire that NRRA is tracking, one relevant for all NRRA members in New Hampshire is HB 1386.

The bill would prohibit the disposal of lithium-ion batteries in landfills, incinerators, and composting facilities, as well as prohibit the disposal of certain electronic devices. The House Environment and Agriculture Committee will hold a hearing regarding HB 1386 on Tuesday, February 6 at 1:10pm at Legislative Office Building 301-303 in Concord, NH.

While NRRA does not take a position on proposed legislation, NRRA Executive Director, Reagan Bissonnette, will testify on behalf of NRRA to our members' experience regarding lithium-ion battery fires and electronics recycling. NRRA Members are encouraged to take action on one of the following actions by February 6th:
1. Attend the hearing in person and share your feedback

American chestnut used to be a dominant tree species in our region, representing about 25% of all hardwood trees. American chestnut populations were devastated by chestnut blight, an invasive fungal diseases, and the species is now endangered in the US and Canada.

The good news - an American chestnut comeback is possible! Join us October 7 to learn about efforts at Branch Hill Farm to re-introduce American Chestnut into our local forests. Forester Charlie Moreno will provide history of the American chestnut, and updates on re-introduction experiments.

Have you ever wondered how an oyster grows? What makes these simple creatures so important to the Great Bay ecosystem? Come learn about this and more at the Dover Community Oyster Garden! To help restore a declining oyster population, The Nature Conservancy partnered with the City of Dover to host oyster cages filled with baby oysters in Hilton Park.

During the public workshops, we'll be exploring the importance and biology of oysters and learning how to collect data on how fast they're growing. There will be interactive activities that are perfect for all ages, including exploring inside the oyster cages and looking at what types of animals and plants occur in an oyster habitat.

What to bring
Please wear clothes you don't mind getting a little dirty, we won't be in the water but the oyster cages can be wet and muddy. Please also bring anything you would like for a day outside (sunscreen, bug spray, water, snacks, etc.)

Youth Instructions
Youth volunteers are welcome and encouraged to join with an adult! There will be a range of activities and presentations that guarantee there will be something for everyone.
