UPDATE!!!!!!! Thank you all from the bottom of my heart. I read all of your names and I will have enough formula for a month!!! A month!!! Thank you all for your generosity!! The animals thank you too!!
🦝 $5 FRIDAY! 🦝
I know... here I am begging again. And beg I will, because these babies depend on us.
Last week's formula bill alone was over $900. That doesn't include dog food, fruits, vegetables, puppy pads, medications, or the new cage we had to purchase.
This week's formula order is just as painful:
🍼 2 twenty-pound tubs of raccoon formula: $610
🍼 1 nine-pound possum formula + 1 nine-pound skunk formula: $202
📦 Shipping: $48
💲 Total: Around $860
Things are starting to slow down a little, and I'm working hard to transition more babies onto solid food, but we're still going through formula at an unbelievable rate.
The good news? The babies are doing amazing.
❤️ The little raccoon boy and girl with the head injuries are acting completely normal. They're in a lower cage so they can't take another tumble, but they're playing, eating, drinking, and making a true raccoon-sized mess. I wouldn't have it any other way. They have been through so much.
❤️ Our possum with the broken leg was successfully released! The leg healed beautifully.
❤️ We have also released 10 possums and 3 groundhogs recently.
But as quickly as animals leave, more arrive. Many are coming in in terrible condition—covered in fly eggs, maggots, and ticks. The need never stops.
So it's $5 Friday.
If you can spare $5, it truly helps. $5 buys bananas, grapes, or a bag of apples. Every single donation adds up and helps feed and care for these animals until they can return to the wild where they belong.
Thank you for believing in this work. Thank you for caring. Thank you for helping save lives.

Please keep one of our fellow rehabbers in your thoughts and prayers. She had a horse accident yesterday and the horse won breaking her jaw and she is scheduled for surgery. She does all the song birds and bunnies so please be patient with all of us. This is a very trying time for rescues, shelters and wildlife rehabilitation. We are all so full and now Lynn Hazelrigg’s animals are in other licensed rehabbers care. Thank you Heather Dawson.
If you have extra garden supplies, kale, squash, zucchini’s, cucumbers, or wanted to donate apples, eggs, raw chicken wings, bananas, grapes, sweet potatoes, corn on the cob we all would greatly appreciate it. However we simply can’t pick it up and it can be dropped off at 1010 Mathis rd Farmington. If you are closer to Hopkinsville I can give you an address for a rehabber up there. Thank you for your continued support because we are all struggling right now. And please say a prayers for our dear friend Lynn. .

Some days you feel defeated. You go and you go, sleep very little and get up and do it all over again. I had gotten in two different head injury baby raccoons, which alone is a full time job! One fell 2 stories on to cement and she said she just flipped and flopped. I’m surprised she lived through that. Took them both to the vets because the other one was having seizures from his fall. Thank you Dr.Rogers for putting up with me!! And the really bad one had blood in her eyes and her legs were just going everywhere. Anyways, I tube fed the really bad one today and gently put her back on her warm blanket and made up some food for the other one. I looked in to make sure he was eating and they were both eating!! What!!! She was slow, but she was eating. And that little miracle is why I get up in the morning and go and go and get up and do it all over again! 💕

These are some of our new faces, and with so many new followers lately, I’d like to explain again exactly what I do.

I do not work for Fish and Wildlife. I am a licensed wildlife rehabilitator with a permit through the Kentucky Department of Fish and Wildlife. I am not paid by the state of Kentucky.

I also do not use volunteers unless they have completed the required basic course. I care for many Rabies Vector Species, and I cannot risk a volunteer being scratched or bitten and having one of my animals euthanized as a result. It simply is not worth the risk. I would rather do it all myself, and I do.

Many of the animals rehabbers receive are extremely compromised. Some have been without their mother for days, sometimes over a week. Some have fallen from trees, been hit by cars, suffered broken bones, or arrived emaciated, terrified, dehydrated, and confused. It takes a tremendous emotional toll.

For years, I always had my husband to lean on, someone to cry to, someone to help pick up an animal, someone who understood this life completely. Now it is just me.

I cannot always drop everything and immediately pick up an animal. If I leave during feeding schedules, it puts me behind on around the clock care for the babies already here. I am one person, and I simply cannot take every animal. I do my very best to help by offering resources or finding another rehabber whenever possible.

Please be kind.

My phone begins ringing before 7:00 AM and often does not stop until well after dark. Sometimes I cannot answer because I am literally holding bottles and feeding babies. Please be patient with me.

The cost of supplies is enormous. My formula bill alone is staggering. I opened a 20 pound tub of raccoon formula on Friday, and by today it will already be gone. I also use species specific formulas for opossums, skunks, and squirrels.

If you would like to help the babies, formula can be purchased through Fox Valley Nutrition and mailed to:

Western Kentucky Wildlife
1010 Mathis Rd.
Farmington, KY 42040

Purina Dog Chow also goes very quickly. A 44 pound bag can be purchased through Chewy or Walmart for under $30.

Walmart gift cards for animal supplies are always appreciated as well.

As always, thank you for supporting wildlife rehabilitation, for supporting me, and for caring about these animals.

Let’s show kindness to each other. Let’s show kindness to the animals.

A huge thank you to Petsense in Murray for showing such compassion to a baby bearded dragon who had experienced injuries to his feet after being bullied by other babies in the enclosure.
The team at Petsense reached out for help, and not only entrusted me with his care, but also generously donated the dragon and all of the supplies needed to help him heal and thrive.
It means so much to see kindness and empathy extended to animals that need a little extra care. Thank you for giving this little guy a second chance. 🦎💚
